Question New girl from Florida. :)

Hi everyone, I might have posted on this forum earlier, but I ended up getting an 88 instead. 13B, N/A.

At any rate! I'm having some issues with the car, mostly that it's not running.

1.) Parking break REFUSES to move. Car hasn't moved in an undisclosed amount of time, either.

2.) Fuel system has pretty much been replaced. New tank, new filter, new pump. Lines are clean. Clean fuel coming out at the engine, but stops at the injectors. Therefore, no fuel to the engine.

a.) ECU?
b.) Other electrical?

Help please!

Did you reverse the fuel lines? Make sure they are flowing from the filter to the rail, and from the return (on the rail) to the fuel pressure regulator.

With my car there was a problem with the wiring and the injectors would not open. There are little leds that you plug into the injector connector and crank the motor, they will light up if the ecu is sending the open signal.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks! I'll go try that stuff out. I recently got my hands on an FSM, and will be getting the Haynes on Saturday. If the things you guys suggested don't work, or something entirely different happens, more questions in this thread.

Okay, update. Parking break works.

Today I was farking around with the car, and I noticed something interesting. One, that there's an aftermarket switch that's wired into the ... outside fuse box? You know, the one near the battery with the labels on it? Anyway, that switch is wired into that to the comp and inj. one, but flipping it does nothing.

The guy had told me that these were the things wrong with it, but after further inspection, I notice he had the ecu disconnected. I plugged it back in and the car *tried* to start, but again, like he said, no fuel to the engine. The back far injector is not leaking. However, the forwardmost one is leaking like a mother.

My brother and I are going to pull the fuel rail off tomorrow when we get it into my driveway and see what's going on.

Definitely pull your injectors and get them professionally cleaned. Good luck getting it running. You'll find plenty of info here.

Alright, injector cleaning it is, and testing the lines! We'll see if that helps.

Also. :\ This is probably a stupid question, but the brake pedal's not supposed to go down all the way, is it? I think the pressure's gone out of the lines. I remember replacing ALL of the brake fluid on a Nissan 300zx to get the air out of the lines... it was kind of a pain.

Jesus, there's a lot of things I have to do to this thing to get it running. Thank god for the FSM! I need to get a fire extinguisher before I play around with the fuel lines though... hm.

For your help, here's a picture of the poor thing. She's looking pretty rough, but today is sanding and spot painting day to stop the rust!

Eventually, a long, long time from now, I think I'll go black or silver. Can't decide. Don't have to yet, lol. Not for at least a year, I'm thinking. I'll just be happy if I can get fuel into the engine right now! Thanks all lots for your support. ^^

Yeaahhh, so no brakes! That's all kinds of fun!

Today, I sanded out the rust and threw primer over it to keep it from rusting. It looks a little better than the original picture, but still looks like ****.

Title was handed over to me today, so the car is officially mine. Yay!

Here, of course, is a picture.

go to Auto Zone, Pep boys or wherever and get a Chilton manual and read it front to back 20 times... you'll be light years ahead in the game... seems like you have some basics to learn.

GL with the project! just bought an 87 myself!

Yep! Still have LOTS to learn about cars [rotaries!] and repairing them in general. I'm excited though. I just bought the Haynes manual, and I've got the FSM tucked away on my harddrive. Been reading through all the FAQs on here as I get the time.

We towed it home tonight. That in itself was insanity.

But, it's in my driveway and now can be worked on whenever I need to, instead of having to drive 20 minutes + traffic.

... We had to charge the battery just to roll the windows back up after moving it from where it was... But it's home, and it's safe now. Apparently it had an aftermarket switch for underglows. : They are not on the car now. I don't know when they were.

Ahh, the continuing saga of this car unfolds. It makes good writing material!

Thanks for all the welcomes and support!

You can test that the injector ticks by putting power through it , +12v on one side 0v on the other side, but only do it momentarily I'm talking like fractions of a second or you will burn out the coils inside the injectors.

If it passes the tick test, you can remove the throttle body and open 1 injector at a time with the fuel system presurised to see if fuel comes out. If they are opening then I think the problem will be electrical such as wiring or computer.

You are diving in the deep end starting with a non running car but you will learn so much. Avoid spending money at first, such as cleaning injectors when you haven't even gotten the car to fire, if you need to pull them 5 times looking for faults (I have recently) then you will be worried you dropped something in them again and they need cleaning again.

Also you have 4 fuel injectors and only the 2 closest to the engine need to be working properly for the car to start and idle correctly. In fact it should work fine to 3800rpm without the others connected at all.

Sounds to me like someone installed a fuel cut switch probably to combat the typical flooding issues with RX7s. Make sure you have the switch on or disconnect it for now.

Where in FL are you?

You go Girl!

Good Luck with the 2nd Gen. I'm sure you've checked the 2nd Gen Specific thread. You may find answers there. You'll find everything on this site but practical experience. Big project ahead of you but stay with it the rewards are great...plus "7" owners are great people. I also checked the thread for "7" shops in FL but saw nothing in your area....but it appears you want to gain the practical experience yourself.

I'm in Fort Walton Beach, kinda near Pensacola, but um, not really? Closest city is sort of Destin. Highway 98 runs straight through it.

750. I was aiming for 600, but there's lots of stuff in the car that's actually okay and works just fine. Just not the engine.

Yeah. She's going to need a lot of love before she gets on the road, hell, I suppose before she'll even start, and since there really isn't anyone in the area who deals with rotaries, it's all up to my brother and I.

I'm okay with that. I did purchase a non-working car for a reason. I would have preferred a running one with issues, but this RX-7 is what came along and I love her to death. I'm setting a sort of tentative starting/running date for the middle of November. Tentative.
