I am currently in the same situation as you with my 91 GXL not running due to Fuel delivery but its a really clean car will ost pics up soon when i get it running........... but yeah, you happen to live on the other side of for me (I live in miami so .....a 7-8 hour drive wouldn't be all that great with the gas prices the way they are!) Hopefully i can learn something from this too to put to my car!

I fixed the injector though - at least, it doesn't leak fuel now. Just had a torn O-ring!
Does... any one have a diagram of *where*, physically, the grounds are in an 88 N/A RX-7? ... I found one last night that was disconnected... and I don't know where it goes. I'm in class right now, so I'm gonna see where it goes after I get done with school.
... woo. So. For those of you who've been following this thread, the main issue with this car is indeed electrical. ... and now we get to find out where. Woohoo!
Kurt's been helping me with this thing, and he's been instrumental in me even getting this far. Thanks everyone! Hopefully we'll get her running sometime soon!

The ground your talking about goes on to a male connector bolted on the firewall above the transmission, it should just slip back on, unless the female connector is trashed which happens alot, remove the bolt also and use some sand paper to clean the surface.
The other main ground is on the driver side shock tower, to the bottom of it, right across from the spark plugs.
Your not to far from me.
I have a parts car its a GXL if you need anything, just drive on down to Pinellas county...I will hook ya up for free. I also have about 3 more torn down cars in my pull barn. Come down I will give ya a S5 inake for your new engine...
later..
Welcome to the club!

Yeaahhh, so no brakes! That's all kinds of fun!
Today, I sanded out the rust and threw primer over it to keep it from rusting. It looks a little better than the original picture, but still looks like ****.
Title was handed over to me today, so the car is officially mine. Yay!
Here, of course, is a picture.

Interesting... just curious as to why you would devote so much time and effort into THIS car rather than one with little to no issues?

Good luck with all that. It sounds like you're figuring it out pretty efficiently. If you need any help, just shoot me a pm. I just went through most of what you are dealing with on my current build. I bought it not running with the motor out of one that I flipped. Mine now runs, but I'm slowly collecting parts to get it back out beating the streets.......and driving to and from work. You can also find on myspace ...right down there \/

I don't want to be one of those dozy bints that knows nothing about their car and is just magically convinced that it runs, and when it doesn't, runs screaming into the nearest shop they can find. Nuh uh. None of that for me. I want to know how they work, how to pull them apart and know how to fix it.
Then, when my head is crammed full and I'm moderately experienced, I want to teach the other people in my world that cars are not scary, and not difficult, and with the right tools, some time and patience, that they can do most of their own stuff, learn tons, and save themselves a lot of trouble and money.
This stems from a deep and abiding belief that America is turning into a country of lazy, complacent drones, moreso now than ever. Most people just accept everything around them and never question how things work, or why they work. I hate that about this country, I hate that about people in general, mostly because it's just sad. What makes humans special is their desire to know, their spark of curiosity that keeps them constantly questioning - and that's being beaten out of my generation. Keep quiet. Keep your head down, don't question, do as you're told and conform.
So instead of mounting a revolution and blowing up buildings. I've decided to learn how to work on cars. They're a huge part of our daily lives, and most people don't even know how to change their own oil.
When it comes down to it, I want to know everything about cars that I can, so I deliberately picked one with issues. One that really needed help. It's also sad to see an originally great vehicle get neglected.
Hence! Here I am, armed with you guys, the FSM, my brother and the Haynes!
I'm known for pretty much doing everything the hard way. I pick the most difficult aspect of whatever I'm trying to learn, throw myself into it, screw stuff up a lot, and end up learning a whole ton while I piece together how to get from where I'm going. I did this with knitting, too.
--
My other car is a '02 automatic n/a VW Beetle. And it's slow as hell. After sitting in my brother's Z, and a Firebird Formula and a Shelby Mustang, I just couldn't do it anymore. I didn't want something monstrously powerful. I didn't want something huge and overbearing either. A long process of poking around at different cars commenced.
RWD was a must. Small, because I'm *really* short. Quick, with loads character. 80s Japanese sportscars have a sort of allure to them. I wanted something turboed, but I was okay with naturally aspirated as long as it made some power.
So between the choice of a 300ZX, a 240SX, a 200SX or an RX-7...?
I picked the RX-7, obviously, and this is the one I found for the price I was looking for. Of course, she came with issues, with problems. But in the end, I really do love this car, and I'm determined to have her working before the year's out.
If you read through all of that, I'm really, really impressed. I tend to ramble. Does that answer your question, though? <3
... wow, that was longwinded. xD

i fought with electrical issues on my car for a half a year (for me it was my injectiors having the right amount of voltage but not actually squirting fuel) until i went crazy and gave up and went with a stand alone. Hopefully your electrical issue is something small like a bad ground though : )

No power to coils and no power to spark plugs.

... Hee. I know, it doesn't make much sense does it? Well, first off. I didn't have a lot of money to start with, but I really did want a car with issues. Here is where you may question my sanity.

I agree with your view on people in this country. The people that I used to work with at Pizza Hut were shocked at the little things that i've done to my car, let alone the big replacements. People are generally lazy and stupid. Good luck finding the electrical gremlin.

Since there's no power to the coils, have you checked the blue 10a engine fuse under the steering column? Look in the 2nd gen FAQ section.. There should be a pic of the fuse box if your car is missing it. Replace that fuse and check again to see if your coils have power. If still no power, check to see if the wires on the harness for the coils have power going to them.

Is um... that the 15a engine one you mean? I may be stupid and missing it...?
I will do this though. <3 Thanks.
