It will get a new tube chassis running all C5 corvette front and rear independent suspension. I will probably weld up a cage in it, but not positive on that yet. May do an engine swap. Thought about doing a Maserati f136 4.2l in it. So many ideas so little time (and wallet)
I was excited until you said tube frame and V8. The car looks like it has potential and these cars are amazing with zero modification. With a little modification, these cars really wake up and are a blast to drive. The car is balanced in part by the engine being placed behind the front axle line. Adding a V8 will give you power but will reduce the handling characteristics of the car. If you want to go fast, why not consider a ported 13B or a turbocharged 13B?
Ya I understand your point, and knew this would come up. I’m just a rumbling v8 guy.... and I’ve actually contemplated stretching it and doing a mid engine on it. I’m just not a stock or turbo stock kinda guy. As far as the handling, I’ve drove a sbf swapped 2nd gen, and I think it handled different, but not in a bad way.
It is your car and your build and I respect what you want to do. Just trying to give you some options. I prefer a rotary in my RX-7. Just how I feel. No doubt they are very quick with a V8. I bought a Corvette for my V8 lust and I love the way it drives and the acceleration is very respectable.
I do appreciate it. I respect the knowledge you guys have about these cars. Funny thing, I sold my C5 to fund part of this build. I absolutely love vettes, but I’m just at that point I want to build something I’ve never had before. I also like to go big! Or as big as I can anyway. I did look at some numbers today on the rx7 and realized mid mounting is out of the question, even with a mendola transaxle. Minimum of 38” between rear axle and the back seat is needed. I’d have to stretch the rear a minimum of a foot. Don’t think it would look right. Was a cool thought though...
