new from the bay
hey guys, name is wilson and im from the east bay area in northern cali. Im 19 years old currently attending college trying to transfer to san jose state. not sure what i want to be, but i do know what i love, and thats cars. ever since i was young cars just fasinated me. they were machines, peices of metal that some how had human like personalities. but it wasnt till i got my first chance to experience speed that i fell in love with driving. At the age of 14 i had begun indoor go karting and havnt stopped since. every week i compete in heats races and enduro races. till recently i landed a job at the very track i had been racing at for years. so to pay for school and my hobby i am an almost full time track marshal.
while in high school i had learned most of what i know about cars through auto shop, car forums, magazines, and books. I loved working on my car so much that most of my classes were unattended my first car wasnt exactly a performer but it got me where i needed it to go. with alot of work the 1990 acura legend ran like a champ. i learned all the basics and the thing never gave me a problem.
well since the first time i saw drifting i was addicted, i was a total fan boy. played initial d, watched it, watched option but no car in my possesion that was capable. , after convincing my mom to sell the car i grabbed a 1980 bmw 320i. i figured it would be a good platform, lsd, light, nimble, and good torque. but boy was i wrong! horrible steering angle, rust everywhere, and deteriorating bushings was way to much for me to handle with my limited resources. SO onto the next one, a bit newer and easier to drive i got a 1990 240sx. now this was something i could build off, welded diff, coilovers, bucket seat, exhaust, arms, and some enkie 92's. it was easy to work on, fun to drive, and most important at the time , CHEAP!
After attending a few track days, and many late night mountain funs, i yearned for more power! turbo-ing the 240 was risky due to smog laws, and a dual cam swap seemed a bit pointless, so i looked at my other options. thinking about something stock turbo, rwd, 5 lug, big brakes, light, and a little different, imediatly the rx7 fc came to mind. i was set on what i wanted, everyone told me dont do it, its a waste, a ticking time bomb, but i didnt care! i bought the fc same day i sold the 240. A S4 turbo II, body needs work, and motor to but im ready to learn.
so heres a few problems ive encountered, flooding, hot start issues, 96psi compression in rear rotor, exhaust leak, small boost leak, vacume leak, 02 sensor is garbage, fluids are all 3 years old, but so far i have a huge smile on my face when im driving. So far the car came with a knight sport ecu, tanabe down pipe, 5zigen catback, hks bov, and greddy boost guage. so my future plans are the get some isis coilovers, fix everything i just listed, get a bucket seat, mustang sc replica wheels, and a paint job. So a good family friend of mine gave me his old gp sport kit and ill throw that on once the car is low and has wheels.
so for bay area guys ill be over at rotor sport this weekend to have the car looked at, and to get the car smogged if anyone wants to meet id be ecstatic to meet you guys.
