NJ Long time Mazda Fan

I had an 85 GSL, and a Gsl-se, in the late 80's. Loved the idea of a simple light performance car. Thought cars like that would be around forever. Next mazda toy was a 94 Miata M in'99. Nice car, well engineered, good long distance driver. Family car is now a 2007 CX-7. MartyD

I think the GSL-SE was close to a great car. Th GSL shoul have had the same hp as the SE and the SE could have used about 35 more. Mazda always seems to just miss by a little bit. If my 94 M had the engine thats in the CX7, it would have been great. The MZR in the CX is good, but Mazda has it running too darn rich, I can't break 21 mpg and the tailpipes are always carbon black. After all that, my son gets his permit in a year, and the short list has rx7, miata, and mazda 3 on it. MartyD

Mistake with my 85 GSL

I sold my 85 GSL to a nephew, told him I would buy it back when he got out of college and bought a new car. Explained everything about car, twice. Showed him switch under dash that killed spark for anti theft.
A year later I saw him, and said, "Hey Brian hows the 7"? He said "It wouldn't start, I gave the bill of sale to the guy who towed it away". It was 1999. 50k mile black GSL, all orig. Some operator in New Brunswick, NJ hit the lottery. MartyD

Page load time?

Is just my computer, or is this a slow to load site? I have a cable modem and this seems to load much slower. Thanks MartyD

3 RX7's for me ... 84-85 GSL-SE is a Fav !!

I've had 2 FB3S Rx7's with the 13B engine, and a 1988 FC3S Turbo. IMHO, the FB3S with the 13B engine was just enough zoom to make this car fun on twisty mountain/canyon roads. The GSL-SE had good suspension fitments and my current ride has new suspension components and aftermarket tires/wheels. Very 'Sticky' on the road ... almost like a go-kart that is street worthy.

These cars are getting older, fewer original cars and it seems that just about any FB or FC will have a street port or turbo rebuild. Problem is finding one that was done right. There is so much info on this site, it hard sort it all out.
Smog laws are another problem, I would need to look for an 84 to get historic plates. MartyD

Rx8 is a compromise, Mazda is great at compromise. Renesis engine, 6 speed, torsen in a fb would make a drivers car. MartyD
