Living The Dream

My name is Bernard and I am fortunate enough to have acquired an RX7 FD3S Series 7 RS. My goal was to find a gem of an RX7, restore it to as "near new" as I can get it, and run one of the cleanest FDs ... in the world.

About the Nut Behind The Wheel
I'm a car geek with a history of vehicles that have helped define the heydays of driving (to me). That means I've got experience owning everything from M3s to Miatas. Evo Xes to Model Xes. S2000s. One of the first cars I ever bought with my own money was an RX-8. I seem to be vehicularly stuck in the late 90s to early 2000s.

I am from Wisconsin, USA. But I have recently moved to New Zealand. It's the only country in the world to United States in per capita cars per people. So it's a nation of car junkies. New Zealand also gave me access to a JDM market that I could only dream about in the United States. Which then led to me finding this vehicle - one of my dream cars. An unmolested, low mileage, clean RX7.

Imported into New Zealand in Sept 2020, I acquired it in early 2024 and began the months long process of Complete and Utter Restoration.

About the Car
With about 48,000 kms (29,000 miles) on the clock, it's one of the lowest mileage examples I've ever seen.

It's a 27 year old car that spent 23 years of its life outside. The plastics have faded and some parts have turned brittle from the sun. Some of the trim is old, tired, or broken. And the paint is faded. But the car's body is good. It's beating heart, the 13B is stout and the milage low. My plan is to clean and restore the car piece by piece. Cleaning and reversing time where I can. Replacing with OEM / OEM+ components only where absolutely needed. I think these cars were a masterpiece - and the engine design brave and rebellious. A unicorn, then.

You ask me, this car will be a gem to bring back to its former glory.

Far away view of my RX7 with a cherry tree in bloom. Very Japan.

How the car looks right after I purchased it

One of the best silhouettes ever made into metal.

I love the tail lights. FDs look best with a wing.

The 13B-REW prior to restoration. Well...it's under there...
