Kman Art Intro
OK, here goes...
How did you get introduced to the RX-7?
I have always loved the FD3S simply because it's one of the very few cars that actually hold over lateral 1.0G from the factory. I just could never justify owning one that's so annoyingly loud. I guess that hatred was created from too many visits to Moroso Raceway (Now West Palm Raceway in FL) and the numerous amounts of N/A rotaries. That has all changed since I finally got my drag car (`96 civic) out of the shop and she got named "Flashbang" due to the extreme pops she fires off. So yeah, it grew on me
Where did you get your RX-7 from?
A friend of mine actually owns the one that I'm buying. He has been teasing me for a while about buying it, so when he put it up for sale, I took him up on the offer.
Have you had any problems with the RX-7?
I duno if I could call em problems as much I would say things I want/need to upgrade. The current rims on the car are Volk 18" wheels that were bought from a guy that had em on his Skyline GT-R, so they rub a tad in the back, but I plan to sell the wheels and upgrade to something wider.
What are you plans for the RX-7?
So far, I am planning to convert it to a single turbo and not try to go too extreme with the motor work. I am aiming the build process more for autocross and daily driving. A local road course was suppose to open a year or two ago is actually looking like it might open sometime soon, so I figure this will be perfect for that as well.
What do you know about cars and RX-7s in general?
Honestly, The whole rotary engine thing is a bit different to my usual encounters but I always enjoy learning more about cars I'm not too sure about. Diesel engines (mainly cummins) are also another area I am constantly becoming deeply involved in.
Who taught you what you know about cars?
I have picked up most of my knowledge from watching others over the years and reading books, magazines, and web forums similar to this. Hands on is obviously the best way, but it's not always possible, so I spend a fair amount of time doing my own research before beginning any modifications just to make sure I don't end up with something I won't be totally satisfied with.
Have you met any new friends since owning your RX-7?
I live on an island (Grand Cayman) so meeting new people isn't really possible since I already know everybody in the aftermarket scene. Population is about 60,000, but you would be shocked to find out what cars we have down here!
I have always been an "import" guy though. I have lowered trucks, lifted em, owned two door, 4 door, hatch,... pretty much covering the last few bases now. I'm selling my Nissan Frontier (3.0L turbo diesel) and buying a nice Dodge Ram turbo diesel (also a dream from way back when) to complete my vehicle "to do" list.
I've been working on cars since I was 12yrs old (now 30) and with the possibility of a local road course opening up sometime before I die, I figured that now would be the best time to build a road course car. I am actually in the middle of building a second civic hatchback for autocross, but decided to just finish it and sell it to go bananas with this car.
The whole RWD love has been simmering within me but I never actually raced any rwd car until I took my brother's 350z to the local autocross event. I duno if it was the enjoyment of lighting up the rear wheels comin out of the 180 turns, or jus..., yeah that was it
I love to see smoke pouring out of the wheel wells. You just can't get that good smoke with fwd cars, and I have a 734whp drag civic that smokes very well
Like most people who enjoy living under their car hoods, I also opened up a car shop with my brother several years ago and it has surprised everybody, including us, with its constant increase in business and expansion. Oh yeah, if any of you guys visit the Cayman Islands, message me before you come and I will hook u up.
NEWAY, I've started making my build list for the roach and it's lookin good so far. Not yet hit 10k so it shouldn't be an impossible build lol.
I could possibly ramble on a bit more but I think I will cut it short for now. Any questions regarding my post, feel free to reply or PM me.
