Recently, I started working for a man who happened to have an RX-7. It痴 in pretty bad condition and I intend to rebuild it over the next 3 to 4 months. It doesn稚 need too much work in the bay. I just need to rebuild a carburetor. And replace the headlight motors. But the interior is a mess. Most of the interior parts are the cracked warped, or unrecognizable. And the exterior is rusted and shipped. Suspension and undercarriage seem fine but I値l probably have to replace the tires. I just decided to join the club because it would be nice to have some people to talk to who knew quite a bit more than I do about RX-7s. I already have a plan to rebuild the interior ( aftermarket, carpeting, and leather vinyl, to rebuild the flooring and seats. While using various forms of form correction and a leather vinyl to replace the interior parts). But this leads me with the real reason I知 here. Does anyone have recommendations for aftermarket, headlight motors? And where do you think I should begin when it comes to rebuilding this RX-7? Thank you everyone in advance. I said that the headlight motors are bad because they no longer pop up and down the headlights. If there is a way to fix this besides replacement I would love to hear it. Also if they are not called headlight motors then I am sorry. I don稚 think I know all of the terminology for the RX-7. Thank you for the resource, and the warm welcome.
Welcome to the forum! Definitely a project, but a car more than worthy of restoration!! You'll want to test the headlight circuit before just tossing motors at it. Typically i have seen a bad fusible link or a corroded headlight switch or wiring cause headlight retractor issues. I've owned and restored these cars for 26 years and have never had a headlight motor fail.
Welcome, this is definitely the place for knowledgable advice. FB is such a mess, I wouldn't trust most of what people post there. I 2nd Daves comment about the headlight motors. Its much more likely that its a fusable link or stuck/corroded contacts in the relay, attached to the side of the motor. I'd check the fusable links first on the drivers inner fender. To service the relay, unclamp the metal band, remover the rubber cover and bend back the metal tabs that hold the cover on. There are a set of contacts inside (like points) sand them lightly with a finger nail board, hit em with some WD-40 and give em another try.
