Introducing myself

Hi!

I bought a 1979 SA RX-7 to work on through the summer.

I am starting to learn working on it. The interior is completely out at the moment and I am having trouble to get it running.

This is where I hope the forums might be able to help me.

Welcome Alex, nice looking car. There are a lot of rotary and early RX7 experts here, including Mazda mechanics who worked on these cars when they were new. What are those cars in the background?

Hi!

Great that there are former Mazda mechanics on the forum. I hope to find one in the Raleigh area because we are having trouble getting it running after having the carb rebuilt.

The cars in the background are Bitter SC's from the 80s. They only made about 460 of them and 200 came to the US between 1980 and 85. My dad (from Germany) collects them and also sells and reproduces parts for them as a hobby.

Wow, beautiful cars.

Reminds me of my Uncle's mid-80's Maserati BiTurbo when I was a kid, but prettier.

Most people here are having some kind of trouble with their 30-40 year old RX7's, so you're in good company. Post pics and be specific with your issues/questions.... it can be fixed. I think the biggest issue with restoring these cars is finding parts, but you know all about that with Bitters.

Welcome!! That's a beautiful SA!! Do you know any of the car's history? How long have you owned it? Any help you need is right here on the forum. We have plenty of people with a lot of experience and knowledge here that would be happy to help!

Hi!

Thanks, although it has suffered a bit since I got it 18 months ago. The respray paint is flaking off but I knew that I need to paint it when I got it.

The history is that supposedly one person owned it (there is some documentation) but it had been sitting for 10 or 15 years before I found it on Ebay in CA I think.

I am hoping to find a reasonably local specialist where I can drop the car for the carb overflow issue. I am unable to get it running.

Thank you for the tips how to post.

The Bitter interiors were done in Italy on Opel seat frames (there is a 1980 Opel Senator underneath).

The seats in the Bitter are almost exactly like the ones in the Maserati Quatro Porte from the 80s
