Just Bought A New 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo 2!

Hi All,

I just got this new rx7 and so far am really enjoying it. The car is completely stock and is super clean! I am really excited to start working on the car and making smaller adjustments before I go for bigger mods.

Nice Interior.

Some of the smaller/first mods of my list of things I want to start with are:
  • Replace shift ****, boot, and adjust the shift bushings (If anyone has experience with this please let me know what parts are best for tightening the shifts with bushings. I am not too familiar with mazda parts!)
  • Replace brakes, they are still stock.
  • Work on suspension, want this before I work on power
I know some of these things are bigger than other things but the main thing I wanted to start with was the shifter. I wanted to do these before I worked on the engine power as well. Happy to be a part of the club.

What a beautiful TII!! It looks to have been well cared for!! How many miles are on the car and do you know any of the car's history?

The shifter bushing is easy to replace. Be sure to get the spring washer and spacer as well. You will also want to get a new upper shifter plate. It bolts to the trans and hold the shifter in place. It will have to be removed to replace the upper bushing and it will likely be destroyed when it is removed.

The car had 100k miles when I purchased it. It had two owners before myself. One which kept it in mainly heated storage and one who only drove it for a couple thousand miles. I don't know anything else about the cars history sadly. In terms of the bushings and spring washer/spacer is there a preferred place that you recommend for these parts or are they generally consistent across all platforms?

You will want to get the parts from Mazda. I can provide the part number if you'd like.
