I'm official.
I joined this forum back in April as I was beginning my adventure into purchasing an RX-7. With my limited funds, I patiently waited for a great deal for my project.
I originally found her back in April. The guy claimed it was a '91 with a blown coolant seal, but a VIN Check revealed her to be a '90. I don't know if he was just ignorant or misinformed, and I couldn't tell if he was trying to take me for a sucker or what. So I backed off the deal.
Last night on Craigslist I found some guy looking to sell his '90 convertible for $600.
Sounded like a deal to me anyway. Upon inspection of the vehicle this morning I realized it was the same car from before. The dept. of defense sticker on the windshield gave it away. Same car but drastically reduced price. Carfax report was clean up to 100,000 miles, (blank after that) so I paid the man and called a tow truck.
Its gonna take some sweat and cash to get her going again, but my resolve is as strong as ever. Engine is done. Until we get the engine out and taken apart we won't know how big the mountain is, so to speak. She has 215,000 miles, peeling paint in several spots, soft top is DONE, (went and bought a waterproof car cover). She has some stories to tell. And I have every intention of adding another 200,000 miles worth of stories to her.
It was 15+ years in the making, but now I'm an official RX-7 owner!
I'll be creating my build thread soon. I'll need some help along the way I'm sure, and maybe one day it'll help someone else.
