Hi I'm Michael
Hello everyone,
My name is Michael and I just purchased my first RX7. My brother had an early 90's 2nd gen convertible when he was younger but had to get rid of it. My brother in-law is currently in the process of a V8 swap with his RX7. Some of you probably know him since I think this is the forum he uses.
Anyways, I just bought a 1986 RX7 for $150. It was rather hilarious because my brother and I had just spent $125 at the junkyard for an aluminum hood, a set of tail lights (almost mint condition) and some other various small parts.
Well I have to get going to church but after I will start a new thread with pictures of the car.

I never thought that you would have an RX-7 while I didn't... I guess I will have to change that sometime in the near future.
I am looking forward to getting yours back on the road in the meantime. It should be a bloody knuckle blast.

Start-up
So we have been trying to get it started and running.
It was not firing at all and the front coil was a little weak so we replaced that. We have since found the gas supply line to be pinched off (removed clamp), and the air intake to be unplugged (excuse my lack of knowledge for what its called).
It is still not firing so we are looking for some suggestions...

The MAF is what he is referring to as what was unplugged. The plugs are getting a bit wet so the next plan is to clear out the rotors and do a compression test. It cranks just fine and the plugs are getting a good strong fire now so other than having no compression the only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is REALLY bad timing. We will do a little more digging and hopefully get some better insight.

ick, sorry, i'm much better with a carb lol. fuel injection i let a shop figure out. i'm not sure if the first gen 13b had the same style distributor as the 12a, but if it does, it's not hard at all to adjust your timing, but it is hard to get it right without a timing light

Hey Michael,
It's nice to see you on the forum...
You should start another tread in the 2nd Generation Specific (1986-1992) section of the forum about your start up problems, you might get some more ideas as to what it could be.
Also, I may have some parts laying around that you could use... Like some factory rubber pedal pads to replace those ugly yellow ones, lol...JK... But seriously those things have to go.
And send me my parts sitting on that shelf already! Jk
All joking aside, overall it looks like a good buy, and should make a great autox car.

That one actually links this thread so people can see pictures. Ill make a deal with you, I'll send you your parts in trade for oh lets say a rotary, an LT1, and damn I cant remember what the last part was called. LOL just kidding man but you have to get down here so we can all run our rx7s around together (and get mine running...)

Update
So we have recently checked the compression to find a big fat whopping 0...
As long as the compression tester is right this means that I will have to snag the S5 rotary from my brother in law or the LT1, in which case my main threads move to another site...
Hope to have it running by next summer...soooooooo long away
