Hey n00b here, First rotary, gimme some newb tips :)

Sup guys.. my name is Will.. im 21.. just moved to burlington NC .. from westchester NY.. found this rx7 trying to be sold on my NC forum and thought it would be a great idea for a trade for my 350z.. I'm new to this forum but definately not new to forums themselves.. i belong to my350z and INC and a bunch of others..

i own a 2003 350z track edition

and i also own a 350whp turbo b18 ek9 hatch lol

but i am a week away from trading my 350z for a 94 rx7 .. some people say its a good idea.. some say its a bad idea.. I know it is not as reliable as a 350z which i have never put a single dollar into, but you bet your bottom end that i will be taking much care of this rx7 and not beating on it.. I was also considering getting a stock honda for a daily driver in case of emergency haha

anyways the rx7 needs a little bit of work which i will copy and past the info and pics from the ad... i went and drove the car.. it drove perfectly .. but he was honest enough to tell me that it needs a new water seal due to seeing bubbles in the coolant and loosing coolant.. i know by doing some research that this requires taking out the motor and bla bla bla other than that and a 5th gear grind on the tranny the car is pretty sound..

so anyways sorry for the long read.. yes i will be doing lots of research and using the search button but please for my trades sake.. when i go to look at the car again sometime this week .. give me some things to look for and some things to be aware about a 13b ...let me know if you think if the car is worth my time

anyways if the trade goes through you'll be hearing plenty from me haha

NEW LOW PRICE!!!!! IT HAS TO GO!!!

Name: David

Location: Burlington

Preferred Means of Contact: PM or email then I will give out my phone # if needed.

1994 Mazda RX7 Touring Edition

Asking Price: $10,000 (may consider trades) an IS300 would be nice.

Title Status: Clean and in hand!

Interior: 8/10 black/tan leather

Paint/Body: 9/10 Montego Blue

Wheels/Tires: Factory alloy wheels with 90% tread life on tires

Extras: * New street ported/3mm seals 13BTT engine with cryo treated internals * Single turbo conversion(T04S 60-1 .70A/R) * Custom turbo manifold and 3in. exhaust all the way out to a 3in. Apex'i catback(all cats removed) * Battery relocated * Banzai differential brace * Custom intercooler and piping * Greddy underdrive pulleys, intake elbow and type-s blow off valve * Apex'i Power FC * 1600cc secondary fuel injectors with high flow fuel rail * High volume fuel pump (Bosch 044) * ACT HD pressure plate * Greddy Profec B boost controller * Greddy turbo timer * Autometer boost gauge * PLX Wideband O2 gauge * Steel braided clutch line * Drilled/slotted brake rotors * Short throw shifter * Rising rate fuel pressure regulator * HKS Twin Power Ignition * Just installed brand new Tokico 5-way adjustable shocks

Good things: Over $30k invested and you can get it at a fraction of the cost! The engine was built at Rotor Sports Racing in Kenapolis about 15k miles ago and the oil has been changed every 2k miles. Dyno tuned at Intense MotorSports in Charlotte by Zac(Rotary specialist). She puts down 356RWHP &302ft/tq on Intenses dyno which produces the lowest numbers I've seen in NC(I have dyno sheet on hand). On a dynojet it would be putting down 400+RWHP. Car runs strong and is very fun to drive. It definately turns heads. I WILL BE LETTING GO SEVERAL SPARE PARTS FOR THIS CAR AS WELL!(switches, tranny, cruise control, A/C plumbing, etc)

Bad Things: Driver's seat has two medium rips. Tach. occasionally gets jumpy(no big deal). Some times 5th gear grinds(it isn't bad but you will be getting a spare tranny anyway!)

NEW DEVELOPMENTS: I just diagnosed a blown water seal! The car still runs nicely after its warmed up. This is why I have lowered the price so far. I need the money and can't afford to fix this. Relatively it won't cost a lot to fix but I am short on cash, don't have time for it and I've already spent a lot of money on this thing in aftermarket parts.
anywayzz , again sry for the long post.. his name his David from burlington NC.. he might even be on here.. anyways guys gimme some rotary advice and things to look for.. can't wait to enjoy my stay

The blown coolant seal requires that the engine be rebuilt. This is not "relatively" inexpensive to repair

he said that a shop quoted him 1000 bucks to do the seal..

which isn't too much money if you ask me for a engine rebuild..i know the 13b is no b18 lol

some people are saying that it could possibly need a new casing.. how could this be determined.? im going to try and do a compression test

anything else i should be looking out for???????

There in no reputable shop that will remove, rebuild and reinstall the engine for $1000. If that is what he was quoted tell him to have the work done before you buy it and you will pay and extra $1000 for the car. Compression test will not tell if the coolant seal retaining wall on one of the plates gave way.

there was no white smoke or tell tale signs that the car was running badly when i drove it

he said that he heard the coolant buzzzer come on one day.. than found bubbles in the radiator cap that indicates a water seal leak

how long before i will need a rebuild?

Awesome 3rd gen. I don't think you'll miss the Z - they're great cars, I've driven a friends, but just don't have the wow factor of a proper FD.

okay.. so the trade went through.. and im really happy... the rotary engine is really growing on me and im starting to love it!

Found some small things that i overlooked before we actually traded..

the parking brake cable snapped
cluster/gauge lights.. a couple bulbs are out.. as well as the bouncing tach that i knew about
sunroof doesn't want to work only sometimes

any info on the following small problems?

Also i would like to know a website where i can find some reasonably priced oem parts

i need a couple interior piece such as the drivers door lid and the center consil lid and some other small things..

all in all.. i know it needs some work but im ready to give it my commitment and it will be well worth it in my eyes even though it may be much more of a money pit than the 350z.. but idc.. anyways im really liking it.. thanks guys
