Hey all, finally got around to making my own account! I've stalked the forums for over two years now, and I figured it's about time I start contributing. I'm planning on making a build thread on my '87 Base (w/ luxury package), in addition to sharing little bits of information that I've dug up and generally think are pretty neat. Besides going to last year's PrimeNYC 7's Day meet, I'm not crazy involved in the local scene, but I've been a part of the various FB groups for a while now, so hopefully I'll see a lot of familiar faces/cars.
As she sits now, tucked away on the side of the house for the winter.
Welcome!!! Looks like a nice FC!! Would love to see more pictures of the car when you get a chance! Do you know any of the car's history?
I'm actually the third owner of this FC. I was looking for a mostly rust-free FC for about six months before stumbling upon this one. After looking in the NJ/NY area, I knew I wouldn't find anything affordable that had intact floor pans, so I started looking for these down south.
The first owner was a military man who bought it from Ted Britt Mazda in Fairfax, VA on December 22, 1986. The reason I know this is the car came with a folder that held the owner's manual, warranty info, and even the business card of the salesman! The second owner bought it from him not long before I got it in June 2018 and had it shipped up to NJ. It had 78,000 miles when I first got it, and now it has slightly north of 82,000 miles. I did enough research beforehand to know how to care for it, and the only issues I've had with it resulted from my own stupidity and inexperience.
My goal with this is to have a dailyable car that can get rowdy on the backroads. I haven't done any crazy mods to it, just small things like upgrading the "cold air intake" with the stock airbox and K&N drop-in and poly bushings, plus the usual maintenance/fluids. I've been stockpiling OEM+ parts over the winter, especially since I'm now virtually addicted to Yahoo Auctions Japan. I picked up an aluminum hood I gotta get painted, a bunch of JDM lighting parts, and I just finished installing the new sound system. I'd also like to get the missing AC components and better brakes, but that'll be after I recover from the cost of the Infini III seats I'll hopefully be picking up Friday.
