MA FNG in Massachusetts

Hey guys, I've been lurking around for while before I finally registered. I'll be picking up my first RX-7, an 87 GXL, on Saturday. She'll be replacing my Miata as the hillclimb racecar as the wifey wants me to have a full cage around me (fine with me!)

Here's a pic of the Miata at the last hillclimb.

And here's one just hanging out in the garage at work:

I've been an autocrosser for years now, and the Miata will still come out for that.

I'm completely green to the magic of spinning triangles, but I've seen enough to want in on the action. My secondary motive for buying an RX-7 is using it as a drivetrain donor for my upcoming Locost build. It's a tossup between the Yamaha R1 engine I already have on hand for the project and the rotary...

I'll have photos of the car and its subsequent transformation into a full-caged race car coming soon.

Picked her up!

Annnnnnd gutting it. I think this car may be one of the few that can drop some serious weight by losing the interior. Wow, so much insulation - yet they threw in an aluminum jack...

If anybody wants blue interior pieces make an offer. Otherwise they're all going in the garbage. The interior was in very good condition and I took it apart pretty carefully. The main carpet, however, is garbage and in the back of the truck waiting to go to the dump.

Car has:
Engine: K&N air filter, Racing Beat cat-back exhaust
Suspension: Koni adjustable struts
Brakes: Corksport stainless steel brake lines, Brembo brake rotors, Hawk HPS brake pads
Wheels and Tires: Stock wheels with new Fuzion HRi 205/60/15 tires
Other: S5 taillights, Optima Red Top battery, recently replaced radiator, silicone vacuum hoses

It starts and runs fine. No smoke. Oil consumption is normal for a rotary. Interior is clean. It has a few minor issues, none of which affect running it:

-The sunroof works, but needs a little help sliding it. The paint had faded on the roof and there are some surface rust spots on the sunroof. The body otherwise has no rust. The sunroof does not leak at all. It's getting ripped out anyway.

-Rear brake lights aren't working. I think the PCB that runs them is toast.

Awesome! I'm from MA too and I've been keeping an eye out for an FC to use as a hill climb car. Nice find, I'm super jealous.
Do you do NEHA events? I've never been to one but I'm hoping to make it to the ascutney hillclimb in September with my VR4.

Yeah, I'm the autocross director of sccnh, which is a member of neha. Ascutney is a blast you should definitely come.
