NC Finally in another RX7! 1985 GSL-SE

Hi all!
I've been lurking around the forum since last fall, picking up all sorts of good info and a couple of parts! Thought I should finally get around to introducing myself.
Back in the early '90s I had an '83 Limited Edition that I absolutely loved. Drove it for years, but it was totaled in a massive hailstorm (softball sized). During the time I had it, I occasionally worked with a woman who had an '85 GSL-SE. We started talking because of the cars and ultimately became friends (I even married her best friend over 20 years ago). She kept her RX7 all this time, with it being her daily driver for all but a few years. She passed away last summer (cancer) and left me the car. It had 210,000 miles on the original motor! The car was in Dallas, TX and had been serviced by Rotary Performance for most of it's life, so I sent it to them to get it sorted before shipping it cross country to me in NC. They rebuilt the engine and lots of other small (and not so small) stuff. Since then, I've been replacing, repairing and refinishing all manner of interior bits. I'm thrilled to be in another FB, even if the circumstances were not ideal. At least I know she would be be overjoyed to see the shape the car is in now and how much fun I'm having with it!

Welcome!!! That's a beautiful SE!! It in extraordinary condition for the mileage. The woman who had it previously obliviously loved the car and did a great job taking care of it. Very sorry to hear of her passing. It sounds like the car went to the right person. She would be happy to see how beautiful the car still is!

Thanks!
She did take care of it, but living in Texas for 35 years really took it's toll on the plastics. It really doesn't seem that long ago that I had my first one, but that was over 25 years ago. Realizing how many parts are no longer available ("NLA" has quickly become the bane of my existence) has been quite a shock. But it has been a fun challenge tracking down parts, new and used, and repairing and refinishing them to make it as good as possible. Redoing all the faded plastic trim pieces made a HUGE difference and wasn't difficult or expensive. It's been nice to have a project I love that started from a solid base (which is to say it's nice to actually see progress when you do stuff! LOL) This forum has been invaluable with everything from parts (OEM steering wheel, etc) to advice about rebuilding the drivers door hinge bushings so it closes easily and doesn't sag. Hopefully I'll be able to add something useful to the conversation one day!
