Ben from Adelaide - S1 RX2

HI All,

Long time lurker, finally joined up so figure I should say hi!

I live in Adelaide, South Australia and own a 1972 S1 RX2.

I purchased the car in 2016 from an (ex) mate who sold the engine way back in 2007. So it sat for about 10 years just gathering dust. He planned to turn it into a track car which never came to fruition. I begged him for about 8 years and he finally caved in and sold it to me. It then sat in my shed for 2 years (had a daughter so funds were a big tight).

The past 12 months, I have gradually purchased the parts I needed (and wanted), and am almost at turn key stage.

Couple of specs
Engine is a S4 13B BP with a brand new 48mm weber with a S3 5 speed. Rebuilt with receipts 1000kms ago. Purchased a Racecast engineering reverse bump sump to suit.
Customised banana crossmember from side mount to front plate mount

Found throughout the build, the fact that the crossmember was a custom job, it then meant everything else needed to be customised to suit (insert facepalm). Gearbox crossmember was lengthened as result.
Ebay alloy radiator and oil cooler, this required custom oil cooler lines as the LH steering arm was smashing into the old banjo bolt on the return line. (just the banjo and bolt cost me $100AUD!!!)
Have replaced various parts along the way. Slave cylinder (do you know how hard it was to get one WITH a pushrod), master cylinder, clutch line had to be custom made to suit this also.
Now running polished RX7 S2 mags that have been polished and just had tyres fitted as the old 17s used spacers and stud adaptors to 4x114.3 (spacers aren't legal here)
Have a set of S2 Extractors I need to have modified slightyly around the steering box to mate up with the existing 3" exhaust. This will happen in the next couple of weeks once the car is back on the ground and rolling.

This weekend we are going over the wiring and intend to crank it over. Very exciting times after what feels like a lifetime of just sitting and waiting on parts.

Attached is a photo of it before the old engine was removed back over a decade ago. Still looks the same, just with different wheels (oh and its been on stands for 3 years lol)

Cheers for the help I've read on this forum and look forward to being part of the rotor community.

Cheers
Ben
