NV Back in another dorito!

I have been aching to get into another dorito for the past 5 years. I still pain over the removal of my FC from my life then. Surprised I never posted when I had that! Anyways!

I have acquired a 1984 GS a couple weeks ago. Was posted for 5k, dropped to 4, then 2 and I had to swipe it. I'm terrible with haggling however I do believe 1500 would have been possible.

Long story short, car is somewhat rough but certainly not a poor example. I had to pull some of the carpet in the rear hatch area due to mold/ripping. Want to replace/restore if it will be possible.

As for the motor, I wish it was a fully driving example but I am thankful I was able to put around the neighbor in it a couple times without major issues (car stalled a few times on me randomly as I was driving around). The motor vapes HARD, thankfully not coolant, it is all heavy oil smoke.

Alright time for the actual story for those that want the details. Found the car on marketplace with the price drop, spoke to the guy, says it needs to be towed. I go to check it out and it started for a brief moment and spat the smoke hard. I figured if it turned over and started a little bit it was worth it. Take it home, change out the plugs, they were all the 8EQs, did the BUR7EQ and the BUR9EQ for leading and trailing and it started RIGHT up, of course it smoked out my entire street but I was so ******* happy! So I have changed the oil as well as added some Lucas Heavy duty oil stabilizer, the smoke subsided for the most part on startup it seems like normal rich rotary smoke but once I start driving it around the neighborhood after a minute or 2 it will start smoking heavy again, same thing if I just do it up and down my street. I figured the oil control rings are toast but it just seems a bit weird on the intermittency of the smoke. Next issue was the ignition I believe because when it is running the thing chugs hard kinda sounds like a bridgeport sometimes but it certainly is not lol. Sometimes on startup it will feel super smooth and normal then start shaking harder. I replaced the leading and trailing coils, my store only had 1 of each so I replaced with an OEM spec for the leading and an Accell for the trailing, still chugs and so I checked the ignitors and one of them (idk which one is which tbh) is pretty corroded/rusty on the end/curved connector. I was able to order 2 J109 ignitors on Ebay, should be here tomorrow.

Thank you for reading that mind-diarrhea, I hope I can get a little extra info on here, been meaning to post and procrastinated to hell lol.

Welcome to the forum! Do you know any of the car's history? Any pictures of the car to share? What are your plans for the car?

These are the pics suitable so far lol

I am going to be posting some videos on my Youtube channel Sedandan. I've already began stripping everything from the engine so I can pull it this weekend with a friend or 2.

End goals for this is certainly Holley Sniper EFI, some sort of port job that I want to do myself for the learning and maybe that Camden supercharger.

I'm not too sure on the history of the car, I bought it from a middle-aged Pilipino guy who was really nice, he had been using it to drive his kids to school and had to drive back and forth because it's not the 2+2 haha. I was almost positive that some hotboi owned it beforehand however I am starting to doubt that based on the lack of "Kid-style" jank and more-so the oldschool backyard mechanic type of owner.

I'm hoping I don't have to do much when it comes to this rebuild, I'm not sure what to expect. My friend says he expects it to be pretty clean looking since it might be a somewhat fresh rebuild with a bad oil control ring job. However after I told him about the issue I had when the car stalled out down the street and it sounded like it was starting on 1 rotor a couple times he then says the car sounds hurt.

After that issue with trying to start it and it sounding like a lawnmower, It was able to idle just fine(sans all the misfires it already has) after I pulled it back into the garage

The car looks pretty good and it sounds like you have a solid plan for its restoration!
