1999 Type R - First rotary

Hi everyone. Imported a 1999 Type R FD back in July and love the car. I started getting into 90s JDM cars the last couple years and always loved the aesthetics of the FD. Still one of the best looking cars ever imo!

The car is mostly stock except for wheels, coilovers, exhaust and air intake. Still has stock twins but it looks like the vacuum hoses were replaced (they are blue so it seems likely) and twins seem to perform well. I just changed the oil, plugs, and fuel filter this year since other fluids looked fresh.
It had about 82,000 miles on it when I picked it up and I have added another 1000 miles before hibernation for the winter.

Tested the compression and one rotor is fine and other is about 50%, so hopefully I get more time before rebuild. My main goal is to increase reliability and keep the car on the road. I'm planning to add cooling (radiator, IC, thermostat, etc.) and ECU upgrades over the winter.

Absolutely beautiful car jason, welcome to the forum! I love Innocent Mica Blue, and great wheel choice.

Where about in Washington are you? Pics look like maybe Leavenworth area?
I'm just outside Spokane! Love seeing more NW FD owners.

You have a good eye. I'm in Wenatchee. You aren't too far away. It's awesome to see other NW owners too

Awesome, hope we can do some kind of Rotary meetup next year. 7s day in Seattle is too far for me now that i've reloated to the East side of the state, so maybe we make a central or eastern meet for us on the outskirts. There's a few of us poking around in the area.

Plans to start a build thread? I would love to see the updates and progress you make. Your car looks so good!

Congratulations of the new car. More and more IBM units seem to be arriving stateside.

Please be aware that for 1996 JDM ,and newer, Mazda changed the position order of the coils.

Therefore, hooking up the plug wires and coil harness, is different from what you will see in the USDM FSM

It is therefore very easy for someone to make a mistake.

The result could be very costly.

Here is a pic of a set of '99 coils removed from my car with the coil harness attached correctly.

It is easy for an installer to flip the harness the other way around.

Version 4~6 coil set up. (Series 7~8).
