WA 1988 rx7 non-turbo

im buying it for $350. the owner says it floods but it just vapor locked on him from time to time. no trouble starting up. shut it off and started it three times without hesitation. dented passenger 1/4 panel but he is giving me one he bought to replace it. needs new driver seat (current one is worn to hell) needs a radiator reservoir. driver side window is broke due to a break in. driver side door handle is broken. its definitely in need of tlc but very worth it for something so cheap and such a beautiful car.
got an rx7 specialist about 15 minutes away from me (mazdamanor.com) and he said i could get the window and reservoir for $50. thought that was pretty damn cheap. engine has 160k on it but no signs of giving out soon. pulls hard, idles around 7-800. has no problem with getting up to high speed. new tranny, clutch and brakes. i think i got a good deal
the guy is old and has emphazima or however you spell it. lives in an apartment so had to keep the car elsewhere and just wanted it to go to a good home. he put it on CL for $500 but i think he realizes that im concerned about it and that it is my first car (i've had another car with my name on the insurance but it wasnt technically mine). i will post pics on wednesday. its a baby blue color, it used to be red its a shame its not still red but whatever. the lights works perfectly, sunroof is flawless, hatch opens right up and stays up, engine looks good.
the guy forgot the title at his house (thought it was in with the rest of the paperwork ie. registrations and whatnot) so i dont get it until wednesday. i am really excited though. driving it around the block was a dream and i see what people mean when they say that it has excellent handling
when i have it in my driveway i will clean it out and give ext/int pics.
anyway.. my name is ken and if you have any suggestions, lemme know.
ps.. the muffler tips on both sides are just gone so im thinking a borla cat back? hehe that might be a good b-day present for myself

Youre in for a long journey. Or if you arent going to take the time to fix it then thats 350 down the drain

oh, yeah. im picking up the title and the car on wednesday. i do intend on fixing it up. right now i just need the car to get me to school and work but when i have the money i am going to buy a rebuild kit and rebuild the engine. in between though.. i am going to clean up the body (dings), replace window, fix door handle, clean interior (maybe replace carpet) put some bucket seats in, install a new stereo (i need music), paint job, new tires/rims, fix sunroof motor.... hmm maybe replace fuel injectors... a full works tune up with fluid drainage, new fluids, new hoses, a complete rewiring of the whole car, new antenna... yeah... that should do it
probably looking at 2500 i guess if i do all the work myself.
pretty good i say

oh and after all of that i plan on adding a few modifications... such as adjustable coilovers, borla exhaust system, air intake, throttle body, short shifter, new pedals (not for performance, just because they are worn) and a few things but most importantly.. an air freshener
hmm.. i want to get it up to 200 hp. that is my goal.. im hoping the exhaust, intake and throttle body will do this...

do you have pics?
lol well... at least you are getting a COLD start xD
mine hadnt ran for a month when i went to go pick it up.
a year is a while for the fluids to be sitting there... but if it runs then just do a complete tune up on it, new hoses, fluids, plugs and belts.

I got mine for that same price, 88 GXL, pretty much the same condition it sounds like too. The only big difference is that mine was not running. A year later, working on it off and on, and I am getting closer to nirvana. The person I bought it from decided it would be a good idea to drive the rx between two parked cars. It didn't exactly make it through. I have had some body work to do, and replace some parts (doors, fenders, etc.), but it has been fun. I say best of luck to you and enjoy the new toy.
