wiring front side marker as "euro turn signal"

i've looked and havn't seen a write-up on wiring the FS marker as a side turn signal. i did this to my '86 MKiii, not only is it a neat custom thing it's also handy for some of those less observing drivers out there . the procedure is basicly to run a length of wire spliced into the "blinking wire" of the turn signal to the severed end of what used to be the ground wire of the side marker.

since i am not firmiliar with the wiring of FC's can anyone tell me which wire it is that is the "blinking wire" and if it matters which wire i use on the side marker, since it works no matter which way you insert the bulb.

thanks
