Will a 12 be able to fit in the FD hatch?
I'm thinking of putting a 12 in my car but will I be able to mount it towards the back or will the hatch cover not be able to fit it? Basically, I want to see if anyone has a 12 in their hatch and if they will fit fine, if the height is fine.

Yeh I am going to install/building everything myself, I just didn't know if the sub would fit height wise, I don't want to have the sub mounted up going off the hatch window, I want it rear fired and just didn't know if the hatch "cover" would be able to close all the way when I would close the hatch.
BTW, if you guys have any pictures of your setup, could you show me some? Thanks.

What's wrong with it "hitting" the glass? From a low frequency output standpoint, it doesn't matter which direction you aim the thing.
I don't understand why you are bothering posting in a thread when all you have to do is go outside with a tape measure and measure it!

Listen to Rynberg, not just on FD stuff, but especially when it comes to acoustics. Trust me on that one
The usual way is to take out the spare tire well, and use the entire hatch as an enclosure. BUT, if you don't want it facing upward (I was the same), you're pretty much out of all options minus two. One, face it into the cockpit, using the entire hatch as the enclosure (so the sub is built into the rear divider area), or you can face it inward to the hatch, but it takes some custom work. Here's a half-*** pic of my enclosure, not fully finished yet. As you'll see, I had to build a custom floor, and I did have to cut a hole in the hatch cover, but just fiberglassed it and recovered it w/ that felt type of material, so the hatch cover still closes, you can't see the sub when the hatch is down, etc. No rattling, nada. And my fav thing is, I still have some trunk space Now, I just gotta make a custom grill on the sub face to protect it (just a few metal wires/rods going across will be fine).

Although I was really just being a smartass anyways
IMO the subs are much louder then you aim the face away from you, it will vibrate the car no matter what way you face it but you will feel more of a punch if they are aimed this way.

Seriously, it must just be the weight and the friction of the box's covering to the hatch carpet.
That sub and box weigh about 40 lbs and it has a lot of contact area. It actually has sort of imprinted itself into the hatch carpet and resides in a bit of a depressed area now.
I've only seen it move maybe an inch or so from side to side and never front to back.

1) Definitely could use some self-sticking velcro on the floormat to the sub box. It'll never move again.
2) Quick-connect can be good, but also very very bad. Rockin that sub in plain sight w/ no hatch cover, in a quick-connect - or should I say quick DIS-connect manner screams "STEAL ME!" to many delinquents. That's why if you see my car, closed, you can't even tell it has a sub or any audio equipment. And open, you STILL can't see any amps, crossovers, nada. You can only see the sub if the hatch is open, which it rarely is

Ramy - I hear ya man! I've been looking to do some kick-*** custom enclosure for some time now. I like yours for sure. I've had some ideas percolating around in my head for a while but nothing concrete yet.
I guess I should comment that my FD is just a thrill ride type car. I rarely if ever take it anywhere and park it and leave it. It stays it its nice warm garage when at home.
There have been a couple of times when I had to leave it outside at someone else's house, and I just took the amp and sub box inside with me.

Thanks...mine needs a little bit more tweating to be finished...it didn't come out as nice as I'd like, but it's coming along... (I've redone my audio setup like 3 times now!)
My FD is just like yours. Garage to specific destination or just cruising, and back. But I'm still paranoid nonetheless. I don't like uninvited eyes
Oh and I love the "I just tok the amp and sub box inside w/ me" haha...that's awesome!

Oh, BTW, that skinny little tire won't rub your flares either
