Who makes Kickpanels?

Im looking for a set of custom kickpanels for a 3rd gen.
I need them to fit a set of 6.5 diamond audio components but still (somehow) have room to drive the car comfortably.

Post pictures of kick panels if you got them.

I have a grudge with the local shop "Sound Waves" because of the terribly embarassing work they have done in the past.

I wouldn't recommend using kickpanels. Has been very popular maybe 10 years ago not having time delay and things like that. It was used because the speakers are quite far from the listener and so the distance difference between left and right was not too bad.
But today you better use digital time delay to get a balanced sound stage. About 1-1.2 msec delay for left side comparing the right side.
Negative of kickpanels are: Strange frequency response because of the surrounding area, very deep sound stage and frequency response changes much if you have passenger or not.
I would install the 6,5s in the door places making solid adaptor plates and damping the doors well. The tweeters I would toss into the mirror triangles, "looking" about to the sunroof.

I hope that helps a bit.

Ok you have my attention.

Can you show me a picture of what you mean with the tweeters? Whatever I do has to be really smooth.

Also with the 3rd gen rx7 the speakers point directly towards your leg. Thats why I thought kick panels would help. Cause my legs even block the driver side music a bit. What exactly do you mean by "solid adapter plates"? And Im assuming your mean damping the doors with dynomat?

Circuit CIty wouldnt do the install because the crossovers wouldnt fit in the doors. Do you have any suggestions there?

will show you a picture later of what I mean with mirror triangle. I did not di that myself in the Rex cos I want to leave it 100 percent stock. The German ones are ******* damn rare.
If you want, you can also chose A-pillar mount. Just try what place sound better.
That is no problem with the midwoofers. Most important is the tweeters place.
Will tell you more later. No time now.
And yes, I think you guys call that dynomats. Something like that.
You can also install the crossovers out of the door. Even better: You can adjust the settings. :-)

Well, my first argument against them would be the idea that you want to be able to drive comfortably. There is no room behind the kick panel, therefore the kickpanel would stick out a minimum the size of the speaker itself. You may be able to fudge a little on the driver's side, but as far as the passenger's side, there is no other option but to stick out the size of the speaker.

As far as mounting them in the door, I cut some wood to fit the shape of the area of the door panel by the speaker, then "glued" it to the door panel using Liquid Nails. Works great, and haven't had any problems. Also, if you don't mind cutting the door panel, the tweeters sound and look nice mounted in the top of the panel. And as far as the crossover not fitting in the door, unless it is HUGE, there are little areas where they will fit.

Hey barkeep,

here come the pictures. Let me know if there are any questions.

You said you want to do a smooth install. Well, for smooth sound you need an equalizer. No car installation will have a good frequency response w/o eq. That is less possible than hitting the lotto jackpot.
I strongly recommend the Pioneer DEX-P9 with eq module DEQ-P9. This stuff is not cheap, but great! I think it is sold under Premier in the US. Also Alpines F#1 Status components are fine, even a touch better then the Pioneer, but damn lunatic expensive.
The only problem is finding someone with mesurement equipment and what is more that knows how to apply it. I am sorry that I am so far away.

I like the mirror triangle mounts. Where can I get those for 3rd gen rx7?

Also, if I were to mount the crossovers inside the car and not in the doors, how would that work with the wiring?

Touring FD3S: Do you have any pictures?

I originally wanted to put the tweeters in the top of the doors. However the FD doors have huge curves on both doors. The cuves on the driver side are also much different that the passenger side. So I wasnt sure if this would look dumb or throw off sound dynamics.

older alpine 600 watts (I think) driving a 12in diamond audio sub.
panasonic dvd/12disc/xm player with built in equilizer.
diamond audio top of the line component speakers with silk tweeters (brand new still in the box).

Hey barkeep,

you have to make the mirror triangles yourself. I guess that they do not exist ready made just to buy and if, they will not perfectly fit your Diamond tweeters.
Putting the tweeters on the top of the doors is not bad as well. W/o EQ it maybe even will have a slightly better frequency response, but mirror triangle has better soundstage and you do have an eg. Pls show me the unit with the eq (link). I want to know how powerful it is.

Not having the crossovers in teh doors works same as having them in it. Only difference that you have to pull 2 wires in each door. USe the thing the leads also the other wires into the car, e.g. power windows ect.

Why want pictures of the touring FD3S? As I told you my Rex is stock cos I want to leave it like that. I only set up the frequency response as good as possible as my little Pioneer EQ can.

Just look at the pictures.
