Where to get good paint job in San Diego? Good price?

I'm deciding whether to get my car repainting or not. I live in San Diego, is there any good body shop around? I'm looking at doing the paint job for less than $1200. Is that a reasonable price? I can live with small detail defects, such as paint on the weather seal, etc (I want to replace them anyway). Is Carl Scheib good? I know they are cheap, but if I go for them, I will get the best package (more clear coat, more prep etc). Any input will help! Thank you.

I had a friend, who got the whole car repainted for 400 bucks there. Even though the paint was just alright (he was cheap, didin't get the extra clear coat), overall the paint job looks ok. If I get one more base coat and two more extra clear coat (total 3 base 3 clear), will it be good enough?

Try the regional forums. If you want a good paint job, you're going to have to cough up more than $1200...

Yeah, post in the West forum. The SoCal folks should give you some recommendations. And $1200 is chump change. In the Bay Area, a decent entry-level paint job runs a minimum of $3K. A first class paint job, anywhere from $5K-$7K!

I think I will just keep the color and just paint the new bumper. I don't the car worth a $7k paintjob at this point (that's like half of the car!) I use my car as a race car primarily. Any good shop for spot painting??

Alright, I will raise my budget to $2000 bucks at most. My car is for racing purpose, so I don't need a kick *** show paint. I just want something reasonable. Yah, I went to the cheaper paint place, those paint job are not acceptable to me. So, please tell me, where in San Diego I can get a good paint job for under $2000.

I took mine to Sal Manzano in Spring Valley. He is mostly known for low-riders and does great work for a reasonable price. He fixed my badly cracked GT-C bumper, filled in the gap where the signal covers are supposed to go, fitted my Rotary Extreme headlights and mounted new license plate brackets for $325 (our original deal was to re-fit the bumper, fix the huge cracks, fit the headlights and license plate for $325, but he did a little extra work and did such a great job that I just gave him $400 even). The color match on the MBM paint was pretty impressive.

It might take a while to get your car in though since he's running a one man show and only works on about 2-3 cars at a time.

Check out his site at salmanzanocustoms.com --- I think there is some contact info there.
Hope this helps-Jason
