Need a good sources for front fenders
Last week, I got an estimate for a paint job. The guy told me $1000 plus paint. He said he uses DuPont paint, which will cost about $300-400. A couple people I know had their car painted by this guy...recommendation is that he's very good. Getting back to the story...behind the wheels, the bottom part of my front fenders showed some signs of rust. I thought it just surface rust, but apparently it's more serious than surface rust. The guy said that he cut some sheet metal to replace the rusted sections. I'd prefer just replacing the front fenders. Mazda quotes me a price of $277 each. Victoria British sells them for $149 each, but charges an additional $100 each for shipping by truck. In my opinion, $149 is a reasonable price, but $100 for shipping is ridiculous. There's not really much to these fenders...they shouldn't cost me an arm & leg. I'm not really interested in searching the bone yards either. Anyone know where I can get reasonably priced new fenders?

The shipping price can't be helped. Fenders are oversized items, and that's what it costs for freight shipping. If you don't believe it, get the dimensions for the boxes and give UPS or Fedex a call to see what they say.
Your best bet is to keep calling around for different Mazda dealers in your area. I gaurentee you'll get 5 different prices if you call 5 different dealers. Looking at parts.com though, it looks like factory list price is $396 each. And I thought FD prices were nuts. The Victoria British parts are likely aftermarket repros though.

Hot Dog,
I actually have a pair of matching fenders off an FD in good condition...no rust or bends in them. Just some scratches that need to be reworked, but since you're getting a paint job, that shouldn't be a problem... Plus, new fenders come unpainted...so paint is something you're gonna pay for either way.
I'm local (Northern VA, near Tysons), so if you'd like, we can meet up, you can take a look at the fenders, and if you're interested, buy 'em for cheap. Lemme know if you're interested.
