Question what removes stock FD interior paint?

Searched but couldn't find... My FD interior pieces are all scratched and nasty. I've seen a few people who just "accidentally" removed the paint and underneath was a glossy finish so they left it. Anyone know what to use to get it to that point? Thanks!

As was mentioned above, ELO works well. I've found it to be safe on plastic, takes a couple of applications but the paint rubs/peels off with only a bit of effort.

My local hobby shop had a bigger container then in the link above, which you'll need to do doall the painted plastic '93 panels.

Just smooth ('93s anyways) black plastic, kind of semi-gloss IIRC. Most people remove to repaint of course, and it would look on the cheap side if left 'bare' IMHO. Less to worry about though...

I took off all the paint on my shifter panel, it was a little too shiney for me. So i scuffed it up with sandpaper and painted it flat black. Looked decent.

not a good idea because if you leave any paint it will lift when you put on the new stuff. I used 50/50 prep solve and laquer thinner. Stripped it in a matter of seconds.

Thanks for the pictures Mahjik! Now I am a bit confused and need some clarification. I know there is a difference between the 93 and 94/95 dash material, but I always thought the areas referred to were the dash (you know the huge flat area where the center speaker, PS air bag, front windshield vents, etc. are) and tranny tunnel piece with the skin-like texture. So is the material difference referring to the gauge cluster, A/C panel, and shift panel or is it referring to what I originally thought it was? I hope this is not confusing for anyone.

Cheers,
Lam

Hey Lam,

The actual A/C panel and other panels had a "texture" to them for the 94/95's. If you like theh textured look, you can always just order the 94/95 interior pieces. They snap right in onto 93's and they aren't too expensive. My buddy "ebb" here on the forum just changed his over so the prices are probably still fresh in his brain if you want to PM him.
