What a difference!

I recently spent an arm and a leg on dynamat, and used it inside the doors and the trunk. That worked well, but I still had not done around the back speakers, so I went and bought more.
I wrapped it around the rear speaker first, 5 x 7 alpine r series in stock location. I don't use the stock seatbelts so I put a piece of cardboard up and dynamatted over it.
What a freakin difference. I did one first and tried it out, fading to the rear and go back and forth between rear speakers. Holy ****, the one I didn't get to yet sounded like it was broken compared to the other one, and this was still with the interior panels off.
I did the other one and now they both sound great. Definatley worth the money to wrap around the rear speakers, because there is no enclosure. The bottom end came alive(whatever bottom end a 5x7 can actually produce) and it soften the deafening high's.
I realize with the FD that even though I have good speakers up front(Boston Acc) with the separate tweeter drilled up high in the door panel, that you still can predominantly hear the rears because they're so close to your ears.
This, and the fact I put a REAL battery in the storage compartment(deep cycle full size optima), makes the whole system sound ALOT louder than it was. My head unit is the Alpine CDA 9815. The battery alone makes a huge difference in overall power than having that little miata **** battery up front.
Those of you looking to relocate to the bins, buy a Taylor relocation kit, it's cheap, and buy a good battery, don't bother putting your stock little one back there. Car evens turns over alot faster.
But finally, wrapping the rears made a much bigger difference than putting that mat anywhere else in the car. Does that mat help with exhaust noise......no, not with the windows down at all, with the windows up......a little, it just sounds lower pitched, similar to what a resonated midpipe does.

so, you are saying dynamat in the rear pillars near the rear speakers help your stereo sound quality improve but did not help with the outside roadnoise/exhaust?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. If you have a loud exhaust, it is still loud inside the car, no other way around it. I have the HKS hiper, and it still drones on the highway, the drone sounds lower pitched. Like I said before, it seems to be a touch quieter with the windows up.....maybe...barely noticeable. With the windows down there's no change, it's still loud.
Is the dynamat worth the money? All depends on how cheap you can get it for.
