What aftermarket head unit will fit in my vert?

I'm having problems with my stock stereo and I'm thinking of just replacing it with something aftermarket if I can't find a stock replacement for a reasonable price.

What aftermarket head units are made that will fit in its place? I know they make those cheesy plastic inserts to fill the gap, but I would like to find something close to the same size.

What units have you guys bought?
Any idea on how everything would get hooked up to make the headrest speakers work?

Okay, to start off, I have a Sony Moblie ES 8050 (I like it a lot), it is a Single-DIN. The stock stereo mount has space for a double-DIN reciever, or two single-DIN's. You can either buy a double-din receiver, or, which would be my suggestion, buy a single-DIN reciever and a single-DIN equalizer. I have also read on this forum of people putting cupholders (single-DIN size) in that place in the dash (taken off of altima, taurus, or saab if i remember right). Keep in mind, when you replace your stock stereo, you have to bypass the stock amplifiers...mazda put in separate front and rear standalone amps (while most aftermarket HU's use an internal chip for both). Don't know why your headrest speakers dont work, that you can look up in your shop manual (which if you donthave yet you should go buy before you buy anything else). I don't think my plastic 'sleeve' is cheezy, either, i take offense to that

just buy a single DIN headunit and get those nifty little "SUIT MAZDA" sections that allow u to fill up that space with a cd holder and nice black plastic, looks funky, and i like it

I just got rid of my 91 vert to buy my car, but I had a kenwood excelon 815 in it. Below that was the filler, which was a great place for the light from my dei viper alarm. great setup. You can also fill that space with a cd holder like stated above, or the factory cupholders from other cars may fit in that space. And God only knows how much 7 owners need cupholders!!!

I finished off the guages in my car. I have a new way to do them in your car. I also have a possible eq for your car. I had forgotten that I have a brand new KW at the house.

I have a Pioneer DEH-6000 (It lloks Almost the same as the one in the link, only some of the button are different).

I had to take the plastic soround off, because it was too big to fit inside the space in the center console. How did yours fit?
I think I will just go to circuit city, and get a smaller piece for it.

Use a Metra kit for Mazda. It will let you install the radio normally. You can get it at Circuit City.
