were these tweets installed in my FD?

Check out the pic. Are these tweets stock or were they installed by the the previous owner? Any opinion on how this location sounds compared to others? He also installed Boston Acoustics 6" Seperates in shock towers with another set of tweets angled toward the front of the car. The sound stage seems too far back for my taste. I'm debating whether to just turn the gain down on the rear speakers or take out the tweets all together. any suggestions. this is a 94 Touring FD.

Thanks Much

They are NOT stock. Both the stock set-ups only use the lower door location and either the rear pillar location (non-Bose) or the Bose Wave tube in the Back and also both use a Center Spkr & amp

Definately aftermarket. They are also installed in a very poor location. Granted being mounted high does raise the sound stage but at the cost of affecting the stereo imaging. Let me explain. The distance the tweeters are relative to your ears are a lot different then how the midrange speakers will be. This will offset your stereo imaging. The sound from the left tweeter will reach your ears sooner than your right ear and the midrange will not be intune with the tweets. This may not mean a lot to you if your not picky but if you are concerned about good stereo imaging than this could be a problem. If you don't believe me measure the distance of all four speakers relative to your ears and see how much of a difference there is. If the tweeters were mounted closer to the midrange than the distances would be a lot closer and the stereo imaging would be a lot better. Just my opinion. It does look like a very clean installation though and since you couldn't tell whether it was aftermarket or stock should tell you something.

Oh I definately believe you. I understand the concept.. I helped my bro set the soundstage in his impala and I explained the same thing. But my FD is so much smaller, not as much room to decide where to position speakers, and yeah the install was clean. that's why it was so hard to tell.

The rear tweets overpower the front so it's hard to see exactly how their placement is affecting the imaging, but I hear what you're saying. It doesn't look like there's enough space to form kickpanels, so I'm assuming best location would be to modify the doorpanels to accept both a midrange 5 and a tweet. or what about a 6" midbass and a tweet and using the stock dash locales for a high quality 4"? What's given the best stage so far that you've seen? If I had the $$ I'd re-do everything the way I wanted. but I'd also have a pony

Don't feel bad, mine are in a pretty bad spot also. I'm looking into redoing my whole door panels to accomadate a better setup. Right now Eminent Technology has a flat panel speaker that has a really low profile that I'm looking into. I need to save up some money right now to pay for it all though. The stock location is so shallow that you really can't put a quality speaker in that location. If you have any ideas let me know. I'm trying to figure out the same thing. Check out my interior and let me know what you think.

Interior = NICE. The first pic of the engine looks like your car is light blue. then I see your interior and I was like WTF! light blue and RED?? but then I saw the exterior and everything was alright. I've only had my car for 2 days and I'm already imagining everything I could do with it.

What audio system are you going from/to? where are your speakers located now that are so bad?
