Question Usefulness of FD backseats?

Anyone with backseats in their fd here? Are they completely useless? Basically I'd like to have some place to stuff a normal sized person in the event i had to drive two other people around. I don't really care about their comfort or the front passenger's comfort so that really isn't an issue. I'm talking short 10 mile max trips with someone in the back. Can anyone show me some pics of a backseat in an FD? Also, what is sacrificed by having a backseat? Can they be installed in all fds (touring, base, r1/r2)? Thanks.

Its my understanding that they can be installed. Maybe they can't. If not (flame suit on).

Some JDM FDs have back seats.

You could order one from Japan (yes there is a backseat in the Japan FD's) but it will run you Big time with shipping and all. And from what I know it's basicly useless, they put it in there cause in Japan the people can be weird and I guess it's an offance to some one if you can't give them a ride. that and I guess taxes are higher cause the car is 'sportyer'

I beileve that some overseas FD's had back seats. Only thing you would lose is the rear bins. I might be wrong though.

Most Japanese FD's except for the RZ have backseats. There are usually some on ebay. There was a post a few months ago about this. You should find it with a search. I kinda like the way they look, but unless your passenger is a midget with no legs I don't see them fitting too well.

I'm in the UK and have a JAp Import with the back seats in. I have actually managed to get two friends both 6ft in the back seats! Sure it was a tight fit but it mean no taxi for them...

So yes it is possible but you wouldn't want to do it on a regualr basis....

actually, look around guys, I have seen several sets of FD back seat sets for sale. I still haven't seen what they look like, b/c I'm having trouble imagining those little bins switching out with a seat set...but yes, they exist, and yes, there are some of them in america.

Someone in LA was selling his for $500. It came from Japan originally.

I too have thought about it. However, I have a sedan as my daily driver so it's really not worth the time for me. There is a big advantage to be able to carry 3 ppl though. And it's not comfortable so you won't be asked to drive ppl around! Someone will always have a sedan when you are in a group of ppl.

I imagine that the person in the back can sit sideways. You will have to ditch the bins. I would miss not being able to lock and hide any valueables when you park the car. That's the only trade off.

Yes, it can be installed on all models of FD. In the base and R versions, the seat surface won't match as the back seat only comes in vinyl or leather surface. They do look decent w/ deep and low seating position due to minimal head clearance.

well it seems most coupes like the 3000gt, 300zx, 240sx, etc... you have to sit sideways in. Am I right or are we talking much smaller than these?

I think the space that you'll get is somewhat close to a first gen Eclipse. Either way, if you just need to get the 3rd passenger somewhere close by, it'll do fine.

Make sure you get the seat belts and all brackets to mount the seats. It would've been great if the bins can be easily pulled out and you just get a little cushion for the third person to sit on the floor side way. That would be pretty comfortable actually. No seatbelt though...

I just saw an FD last week from a guy on the forum with the JDM back seats. They were totally useless. There was absolutely no leg room for the back passengers. The only way someone could fit back there is to put their feet across to the other seat. Getting in and out must be a pain also. I can barely get back there to use my bins let alone have someone crawl back there. However, if you still want them, they sell for about $500 with seat belts and side panels.

my dad has a Porsche 944 turbo, and its back seats are practically useless. i can fit two ~6' friends in the back, but the front passenger usually has to move the seat up a bit, and the guys in back have to hunch over and their knees are near the front passenger's shoulders or elbows a guy i kinda know (one of my HS friends knows him better, they both go to the same college; and the guy drives an FC too, kinda cool coincidence ) try to get in the back to take a ride, he was about 6'2"-ish and hit his head on the rear roof section (the lift-out top was off), so he went on a ride later when the front seat was empty from what i've seen of FD interiors i'd imagine the rear seats would be even "more useless", unless you insurance rates are lower if you list it as a "2+2"

I have an FC with rear seats. And they are next-to-useless.

Driving with 2 passengers in the back is a major pain since you have to move the seat forward to allow the rear passenger leg room.

Driving an FC hunched over the wheel like a grandma is not cool

Can someone post a pic of a backseat in the FD? I just cant imagine fitting a seat back there. My front seats already touch the bins and have to be inclined to open the bin hatch.

Maybe I can just get some midget friends
