Question Tweeter mounting?

I'm just curious, where have you FC guys mounted your tweeters (If you're running a component system). I'm just trying to get an idea of where the ideal mount point is before I start cutting holes Thanks.

This pic was posted a while back. I really like the way it looks. All other tweets I have seen have been mounted on the corner of the dash or the windshield pillar.

I saw a 3rd gen that had tweeters mounted in the triangular pieces of plastic on the side windows. It looked really good.

You could also do this on 2nd Gen. With a bit of fibreglass, or some modelling putty (you know, the stuff that sets really hard overnight).

Where are your woofers? Doors, kick panels? I don't even know where the stock locations are. I've only had my FC for about two weeks, and I haven't gotten to play with it yet.
For better stereo imaging, the tweets should be in or near the kick panels. The idea behind this is to have the distance from the person to each speaker to be the same dimension or nearly the same. For example, if the component set is mounted in each door, the drivers side set will be much closer than the passenger side set. You CAN move the balance on the stereo to the right until it sounds even, but that sucks. The best place for imaging is in the kick panels because that's where the distance from person to speaker is the closest between left and right speaker. In my 85 it's within 6", and they sound much better than they did when I had them mounted at the base of the windshield.

Does anybody make kick panel pods for the 2nd gen? That would be the easiest way.

stock location in under the dash, pointing at your knees or shins depending on the length of your legs.

my tweeters are mounted on the plastic triangle pieces above the door vent. it's easy to do as long as you have power mirrors. three holes, one for the wires and two to mount the tweet. my woofers are located on the doors above the map pockets. imaging isn't a real concern, i'm not planning on entering competitions. but if you're a audiophile then kick panels would be the right choice. in addition to fabricating your own panels, some relocating of wires and electricals (cpu, etc...) may also be required.

I would just like to add that good imaging can be obtained by just placing good quality coax speakers (or components mounted in a coax-like arrangement - tweeter suspended over the center of the woofer) in the stock locations. The key is to use a relatively wide dispersion tweeter.

I am running 6.5 inch MB Quarts behind the stock door speaker grills and 4 inch Quarts under the dash in the stock location. I went with this brand over something like the Infiniti Kappa or Memphis speakers primarily due to the excellent dispersion of the high frequencies. The imaging is excellent - the sound appears to be coming directly from the front-center of the windshield.

As an aside, one installer told me that tweeters should not be separated from the woofer by more than a few inches - this creates distinct imaging problems, according to him. I believe, in this case, he meant that the highs would sound like they are coming from a different place than the mid/bass levels. I asked him why the highest of high end home speakers had separate woofers, tweeters, and mids. He couldn't answer that one. But I already knew the answer, just wanted to see how much this guy was BS'ing. The reason for separate woofers, tweeters, and mids, I believe, is that at the listening position in a home theater, all the frequencies are spatially overlapping and, therefore, appear to be coming from the same source. This can happen because the listener is sitting far enough away from the speakers. In a car, this isn't possible - if you place the tweeters far apart from the woofer, there will be no spatial overlap of the different frequencies. Therefore, in a car, a good image is created by keeping all speakers as close to one another as possible.
