lets hear it:
How much have you towed with an FC?
I'm thinking it should be able to tow its own weight (3,300ish) and I don't think 300lbs of tounge weight would be to much to ask (like 2 people sitting on the trunk (been done before)).

Isn't the recommended max weight for passengers like 650 pnds? That would mean the car can carry up to 650 pnds max. The FC vert has no real torque designed for pulling stuff. It's your car. lol Not mine.

How exactly did you come to the conclusion that the car would be able to tow 3300lbs? Including the weight of the car, that would be like the 13b trying to move a shortbed F-150.

I think you'd realistically be looking at about 1000lbs; a small trailer with a set of wheels and a tote of trackday gear.

FWIW: the hitches they sell for the car are Class1 (2000lbs/200lbs tongue)

There was a post on here about this idea before. There were some very compelling reasons showing why this is a very bad idea. I'll try to find it.

Or just wait and see his results from towing. Then we'll know why it's a bad idea.

After some searching... I've concluded that it is possible to tow with an RX7. This is providing you are pulling less than 1000lbs, and you have an approved tow hitch installed. I'm not ripping on your welding skills, but I don't know if I'd trust something that was just thrown together in an afternoon.

Hmmm, well my vert may have a lil more power than what came standard. (entire turbo drivetrain, standalone, streetport, "custom" everything...) it still has stock, or worse than stock low end... but just from experiance i've towed (with a rope) cars much heavyer than mine, so i know how to get an impala or Z31 for instance, rolling. Ture I might really be fucked if I had to take off with something that heavy on a steep incline (would not try pulling boat heaver than car up boat ramp). And as far as braking, I was albe to stop a deisel f250 fairly easily with NO brake boost while being towed with a rope (said brakes smoked after second stop).

There's "can tow" and "can tow safely." The chassis is not designed to move or stop that much mass.

Thank God you're 1500 miles away, I guess.

Well I can say that i have seen this tow a jet ski about 60 miles, and it made it pretty good.

As long as "The African" did the welding, I am not worried about it.

This car has seen more hell then anyone on this forum could possible know.

well put...

and as far as fabrication is concerned, I used a thick piece of angle iron, cut to 67.2cm (if I remember correctly)/ hammer angle iron between tow hooks and into place. tack weld it into position. remove the 5 tow hook bolts on each side (some are hard to get to because of the angle iron is in the way, i cut notches with the plasma cutter or you can use a ring wrench. after removal weld all sides, inside and out, and weld tow receiver on to angle iron (in the middle of course). I got said 2" receiver at walmart for about $20. then re-install tow hooks (may require jacking and hammering because on slight warpage cause by welding). wiring the lights should be self explanatory, I ran the wires out though the center of the rubber plug in the bottom of the fake spare tire well.

Any questions?
