Which Sub....again.

Ok...

So with all the JL bashing I've decided to pursue another brand. I was considering the 10W7 but one guy on the web is selling his cuz it rattled his bodykit.

So I've narrowed it down to two choices...mostly cuz of Boostd7's pointed hints. Anyone have experience w/ either one? Please comment...I'm for SQ not SPL.

AudioMobile EVO 2210 S4

or

Image Dymanics IDQ 10 V.2 D2

What's the big diff b/w the ID and IDQ? I may also consider the IDQ 10 S4 or ID 10 D2 V.2 also. Shallower for fitment with Damon's sub enclosure.

TIA.

BTW, I managed to get the Focal 165K2 and Phoenix Gold Ti500.4 on eBay...good prices.

Ive heard good things about AudioMobile. Check out the Sound Domain Forum for some info on subs and what not... THEIR SEARCH WORKS . Anyway, I tried to become a member, but I never got the email with my password in it . Oh well, I still search and read up on stuff.

The EVO given about 200-300 watts will absolutely rock your world. It's an amazing performer. The IDQ might be a bit better in the SQ department, but I think the downright rock-ability of the EVO more than makes up for it I've heard them 2 times, and both times I'm fell in love.

A couple reviews -

A friend of mine has a pair of IDQ10 and they're very good as far as SQ goes. They're also fairly cheap; I think he got them for around $125 each. I've never heard the EVO but I would think it would cost more than the IDQs... It just LOOKS expensive, heh. Currently I have a JL10W3 and thinking of switching to the IDQ10. Not sure if the IDQ10 will fit in DamonB's box tho, I didn't buy one of the boxes because the mounting depth of the IDQ10 was too much for the box. Not really sure how the ID10 compares w/ the IDQ10; all the Image Dynamics subs I've heard were the IDQs.

$125 each?! Where...both these subs are around $169 from searching on the web (welp, it doesn't help that the EVO is direct only). WRT depth, I can prolly fab a 1" MDF spacer to clear or reverse mount the thing. Again both sub seem to work well w/ Damon's subbox volume.

Ryan, I've read both reviews before (and a coupla other ones). Problem is that every review claims each sub to be the best 10" they've ever heard. I may end up w/ the EVO cuz of the aluminum cone (the wok).

Thx guys.

Ooh...one more question: I plan on bridging the rear channels. I was told by PG that I shouldn't run 2Ohms on the bridged channel...what's your opinion? It would be nice to run a DVC in parallel @ 2 Ohms. I guess with the IDQ I can run their 2 Ohm DVC in series and be stable @ 4 Ohm. Any huge advantage in running DVC?

You can get either the EVO's or IDQ's from www.sounddomain.com

The only place that sells the AudioMobile other than direct, is sounddomain. And yea, aluminum cones are cool looking A little bling factor never hurt.

One thing about impedance ratings, they're never cut-and-dry. A 4 ohm sub typically will only touch near 4 ohm for a few hz wide response area. The rest of the time, it's more like 50 or 100 ohms. I've found that pretty much any good amp can run under it's rated impedance level. For instance, my Aura MR475Q is only rated to 2 ohms, but I've been running it 2 ohms mono driving a single 10" OZ sub for a long time. It gets a little warm, but never shuts down. But honestly, you probably wouldn't even notice a difference in SPL from running 2 ohm as opposed to 4 ... or even 8. I would probably just get a SVC sub if you're planning on running a 4 channel amp with 2 channels bridged for the sub.

Red face subwoofer

Hedge I wouldn't lead you wrong and you can do the research yourself get an Image Dynamic 10"sub with esclipse amp. With a car that looks as good as yours you need a quality sound system.

Hedwig,

A while back I did some research on the Audiomobile MASS 2012 S24. But after factoring in the cost of shipping, I decided it just wasn't worth it. I found out it's cheaper to buy an Eclipse TiDVC sub locally. Have you considered the Eclipse 88100 TiDVC?

There's nothing wrong with JL Audio. I've had a JL 12W5 which has dual voice coils for years.

Hi Brandon,

Thx for the tip but those are even more expensive for my cheap @$$.

I've decided to go with the EVO 2210 S4 over the IDQ10 D2 V.2. Basically, I called Sound Domain as per Ryan's suggestion and told them what I've got. They at first recommended the IDQ but said that the EVO will complement the Focal 165K2 better.

So, when I get everything in, I'll report back on SQ and my review. BTW, I prolly need to fab a spacer to work with Damon's sub box.

Thx again all.

I don't think we'll need to make a spacer, the box should be deep enough. The 2210 needs 5" of mounting depth, which is from the inside ring on the sub to the magnet. I measured my box, and it starts to get 5" of depth at about 1.5 inches in, so it should just barely drop in. I hope so anyway, I already covered mine with 1/4" foam padding and vinyl

I love spending other people's money. You're probably about the 10th person that's bought an EVO based on my advice. I know you'll love it.
