stereo/audio tech. geeks i got a question... can i do this??

alright i have 2 amps. 1 amp for all my speakers and 1 for my sub. its a crappy american legacy 400 watt and they both work good. but i hate constantly taking everything apart to turn the bass up and down (of just the sub) and i have freinds with little ***** they can turn to control the bass. only problem is my amp doesnt have a plug in or anything for one. i dont want to get a new amp. question is i just bought a new electric fan for the computer and it came with a **** to adjust the speed... (generic **** it would work for audio or anything else) yknow.. it goes from (min.) to (max.) how can i wire it up to my sub so i could controll the bass? like would i tap the power wire of the switch into the remote wire going to the sub to limit the volts going to it therefore limiting output of the amp/sub. or a different wire? what should i do ?(and before you say just turn it down with the head unit... i cant, it will lower the bass of everything, speakers included)

The only way the **** could work is if you cut the gain controll **** off the amp, and wire the new **** where the old one was. This can be tricky though, so I wouldn't recomend doing it.

You don't want to limit the voltage to the amp, otherwise it can clip and damage both the amp and sub. You want an RCA volume control ****. They've got 'em at harware stores and audio specialty stores and maybe Radio Shack.

sorry but its your amplifier. you need one that has variable gain control. You have to turn the gain down on the sub not anything else. Sounds like you want an amp that does this not the amp you have. In stereo equipment, quality is extremely important. RCA line levelers will just turn down sound overall, not just bass. Now you could solve your problem by adding an in dash variable crossover. Then you can control every aspect of the sound spectrum and tune down the bass. goodluck

my bad I read that wrong, yeah if you have a single amp dedicated to the woofer(s) then just lower the gain on the amp. thanx Hyperite for correcting me.
