Steering wheel for FD: 350 vs. 330 mm

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for an aftermarket steering wheel. I've seen that most people use a 350mm steering wheel with their FD. Unfortunately, the wheel I want (Personal Grinta, black suede with blue stitching) only comes in that color combo on a 330mm wheel.

What are your opinions on this. Would 330 be functional for mostly street drivng, but hopefully tracking 3 times a year or so? Please keep in mind that the car has a Maval manual steering rack, 9" wide x 18" diameter rims in the front.

Or am I better off finding a poor condition 350mm Grinta in another color and try to have it recovered?

Smaller steering wheels will increase the steering effort. Combine that with your PS removal and I would recommend staying with a 350mm wheel. Also, smaller steering wheels block more of the dash gauges.

i have the personal neo grinta 330mm bought it thinking the stock was 350 so opted with the 330 (lol rookie move) its not BAD. im manual converted rack (same as marvel but i did it myself) 17x9 with toyo r888... i dont mind the turning at all, and i dont HATE the feeling of it but to me what use to **** me off the most was the steering wheel **** blocking the mph.. my .02

I have a 350 mm steering wheel and I feel that it is just right. If you do find a used steering wheel, to get recovered the price might make it more expensive then buying a new one. But for your case your color combo does not exist... Have you look into other brands?

Thanks for all the input, I'll be going with a 350, maybe the red for now until I can find someone to re-stitch it. Then I'll just buy the blue horn button from the pic above.

I've looked at other brands, but nothing really stands out at me. I love the look of the one I posted above, and if I'm going to spend over $150 on a steering wheel it needs to be exactly what I want.

Thanks again for the input.

FWIW, here's a shot of the difference between the stock steering wheel and my 320mm Momo:

It's really too small for the street but is great for the track. I'm going to get a 350mm to change to when the car is not at the track (I have a quick release). Also, the stock steering wheel is 380mm so 350mm is a good reduction without going overboard.

if u want the 350/blue combo id try ebay and looking for their lower model with the bootleg leather... that model is quiet cheaper so it will save you some when u rip it off to rewrap... did u get a quote on how much it cost to rewrap?

mahjik why is it that the smaller sizes are better for track?

Gives a little more feel without losing PS and also helps to keep your arms from crossing (or having to reposition them using "the slide" while on the track to avoid the crossing). I also need the added room for my knees so I can do all that fancy footwork on the track.

I ran a 330 grinta for a day, couldn't see any of the dials! 350 works great for me, its a nice size in the FD.

If you were in the same country I'd sell you one of my spare 350 grintas

I'm 6ft dead, just for reference.

I'm wondering if a 330 might be the ticket for me. With my new fixed mount race seat, I sit so low in the car I'm sure I'll still be able to see the instruments, and as it is, I'm banging my elbow on the center tunnel now.

I would never go smaller than 350mm, I think it's the perfect size.

Solid mount your seat to the floor, you won't have any problems with the 330mm wheel blocking your gauges.

Naw 330 is fine for a manual rack it's just when you are not moving at all and need to turn ya have to crank on the wheel. Low speeds and high ya don't even notice it's a manual rack. However id stick with the 350 cuz the 330 starts to block the gauge faces and if you have a tilt wheel it blocks em even more. If you are planing on doing auto X id be looking to swap to PS for faster turning.
