Spyfish007.....subs question
Spyfish007,
Or anyone out there. I used to be in this game for awhile but got out of it........pretty much right when DVC subs came into play and Rockford Fosgate was just new.
Spyfish007, I think you know what I'm doing......the BA Pro's 6.53 up front and I want a single or dual 10" in the hatch in addition to my front stage.
I'm looking at JL 10" subs but my friend says go for Image Dynamics subs. I think he's thinking SPL here........I mean I want hard bass but nothing crazy. And this DVC (dual voice coil) stuff intimidates me.....now 2ohm/4ohm.....
So what I'm asking is for two really good 10" subs (I listen to House/Hip Hop) and a good 4 channel amp overall........and what ohm subs to get....how to wire it series/parallel......2 or 4ohm? Thanks guys.......it will mean alot..........Jeff G

The JL and Image subs are both great products. I am partial to the Image subs since I have one. I have had JL also and was happy when I had them. I used to work with Matt Borgardt who now works for Image. I am also good friends with Eric Stevens who is the president of Image. I built several IASCA and USAC cars with Matt and we have won several world championships and had many magazine articles.
The Image Dynamics subs work good for any music. Work great for SPL too. Which impedance sub you should get should be determined first by what amp you are going to run. What kind of impedance load can it handle?

Rotarygod, thanks for your reply.............
So image is the way to go or are you just talking about the IDMAX series. JL Audio just came out when I was leaving the so called "scene." I do know this though, I will not go cheap on an amp.
I want a great 4 channel amp under $1000. I know probably I should have one for the front stage and one for the subs. But I'm guessing since the car's acoustic's are smaller in size than what I've had in the past, I can get away with one good quality amp. I would consider something like Xtant or Sound Stream. I know I'm probably way off and you can give me 20 more choices, I just need advice. My Image friend says a Zapco (I think) is a good one. I just want a good 4 channel under 1g..........Thanks!

The Zapco is a good amp. I'm not just talking about the IDMAX subs. The IDQ's are a great series of subs also. I personally have a 4 channel McIntosh amp running everything in my car but it is fairly expensive. I got it on an employee accomidation price so it wasn't bad for me. Almost every manufacturer has a good and bad product now days. There are many good 4 and 5 channel amps out there. Rockford, JL, Orion, PPI, Soundstream, Lunar,Xtant, etc. I'll bet you'd be happy with almost any of these companies products so long as they weren't the bottom of the line products from each. Whatever you do, don't run an amp on one set of speakers with the radio powering the other. I don't care how low in volume you want them to play compared to the front. You should either amplify everything or nothing at all but not both. You wouldn't put a turbo on only 1 rotor would you?
