Which speakers are better?

I need some mid-range. I have some 4" 2-way rockford's that are putting out some good highs, I also have the bazooka 6" 100w tube for my bass but I don't have any mid-range. So I was thinking of either the 6 3/4" 2-way Pioneer Premier's or possibly some 6 1/2" 2-way Alpine Type-R's. Anyone have any suggestions?

Type-R's > Premier

It really depends on your budget. Do you have a price range you'd like to stay in?

Well I can get the Type-R's on ebay for like 10 bucks less than the Premier's. Around $100 is good.

I would go with the Type Rs I had a friend that ran an all pioneer system and then I heard a type R system and damn did it sound so much better!

My fault, I thought those were ads. Hmmm... I've never seen those Alpine's before. I can't really find much info on them either. Judging from the 100 watts rms that they'll take, if you're going to amp them, get those (that's all I'm basing it on, as I can't find any actual specs for them). I don't even know at what ohm those run at. I'm guessing 4, but it could be 2, and that wouldn't be good.

If you're not going to run an amp with them, I'd get the Premier's. Those would sound better amped as well, but would probably respond better to low watts than the Alpines. Post up anymore details on those Type R's if you can.

31w RMS, that's pretty good for a head unit. I'd still go for the Premier speakers, as you'll be drastically under powering the Alpine's.

Ya, I don't really want to deal with an amp even though it would make the sound alot better, but I don't need anything that crazy I don't believe. I just want some nice sound that I can turn up. I don't need the people next to me to hear what I'm listening too.

I would go for the Type R's. I work at best buy and we sell them and the component ones to. The premier's i dont think sound all that good anyways. We installed the pioneer slimline subs and the didn't sound good at all either, they distort bad. Type R's are way better. You might underpower them a little but not nearly enough to hurt them. They do opperate at 4 ohm's to. By the way im an installer there to if that helps any.

These alpine's have a 50w RMS, so I think I'll just buy these. Thanks for your suggestions.

I'm about to get rid of my type R's and pick up a set of elemental design ones (Es 6000). From what I'm getting from people, these speakers are awsome especially for the price.

ED for the win. I was SO close to getting a set of 6500's, but they're too big and I don't have enough money to fab up something for them. Settled for those Madisound components with the Vifa's in'em, so we'll see how that goes.

Not to go against ed but they have had a lot of problems with their speakers and their customer support, i personally would not buy them, search their name at elitecaraudio.com and they will tell you the real deal. For the money you really cant beat the vifa's at all, great set, much better than the alpines and pioneers that were mentioned in the original post, for cheap id check out the image dynamic components or maybe the phoneix gold elites (morel makes these) cant go wrong with either of those two.

purex7, I have no clue what your talking about. I've been on all the stereo forums for a long time and I don't hear many if at all issues with ED. I did a quick search on ECA and all it came up with was 15 posts, with not one bad word. No matter what product you get, someone will have something bad to say!

I vaguely remember reading about this, but that happened 4-6 years ago. Since then, they've cleaned up their act and all they get now are rave reviews. And for whoever said they had those names in their pawnshops, what has that got to do with anything? If you think that it's a cheap brandname, go look at edesignaudio.com and you'll see that's simply not the case. Not only that, but they kill any of your Best Buy namebrands. I wish I could find some ED amps in my pawn shop, I'd ******'em in a heartbeat.

I decided not to buy new 6 1/2's because I hooked up that sub I got and I'm very pleased with the sound. The high's don't distort at all when the volume all the way up. Pioneer 4-way's FTW.

read the post, they are well out of his budget. I could recommend 10k rainbow references, but they are not in his budget.
