Size of Double DIN Chassis

Can someone give me the actual size of the cutout in the dash of an FD, for the entire Double DIN hole? I know that Double DIN is supposed to be a specific size in itself, but Double DIN stereo's vary a little. So can someone measure their FD's actual opening, so that I know what I am working with? In mm preferably.

i actually have a double din stereo in my FD. The actual hole is maybe 1/4" larger around each side so you'll need a trim piece to hold it in place. I can take pictures later if you want to see what im talking about.

ps- if you are looking for a double DIN aftermarket stereo, i have a nice Clarion unit id like to get rid of. PLMK

I actually found a Double Din in dash 6.5" DVD player/ NAV/CD/MP3/TV Tuner/AM-FM and it doesn't flip up. I don't like how the single Din units flip up, looks Aftermarket. I like the stock look. I have the exact measurements of the unit, so I wanted to see how much of a gap would be there if any. They say that most Double Din are not actually Double din, they are slightly smaller. So I wanted to know if this unit would fit perfectly, since they call it a "True" double din.

Hate to break it to you, but unless you're putting in a stereo from 1993 (FD assumed), yer not gonna even come close to looking stock. The stock stereos looked like crap, and while they seem to be pretty solid, aren't even close to what we can get today, despite the shiny plastics they use mostly today (save for Blaupunkt, I think)

yea no kidding. Any aftermarket looks totally out of place, UNLESS it has a shadow face (completely blacked out)

I don't mean look stock like that. I mean, like it's flush and proper sized. All single DIN units look out of place in every car, not just an FD. What I am looking at will be resessed and look factory, and it's just black trim, not a bunch of neon colors, or silver or any of that crap they make now days. I will post a pic once it is done, it will look factory.

Intersting answers you've gotton to your question Chris. Hopefully you're now good to go on this after Saturday.

How about giving me a link to the radio you're interested in? Would love to see it. As you noticed, my radio is silver - it works great but I'd rather have something that looks more stock and you've intrigued me with the whole DVD/navigation thing!
