Should I be worried the body shop is going to take my car out for a joyride?

Should I be worried the body shop is going to take my car out for a joyride?

I plan to to put my car in the shop for about two weeks most likely
the thing is- my car is currently filled with water only since I have been doing some engine work
it also does not have a thermostat
apparently no mazda dealer in the entire city carries a thermostat so I have to special order it
anyway, i was going to put the car in the shop in the mean time

my brother is a mechanic at an automotive dealership and he wants me to limit the boost
I see all these stories on the internet, but I think most of them are just dumb kids
should I really be worried someone is going to go for a joyride and over heat my car?

Yes. If you have a PFC I'd limit the revs to 2800 or something myself.

in all honesty if it has an aftermarket ECU such as a power FC set limit and take commander or just take the ECU out, as any prolonged running will cause an over heat issue. make them push the car not drive it.

I have a profec B2 but no PFC installed atm
I tried to set boost down but I couldnt get it under 7lbs so I just left it as that lol
anyway, I didnt feel comfortable with leaving the car with just water so I went ahead and added 25% coolant
the thermostat will take a week to get here from mazda trix so I guess thats fine to install after the body work is done

If you don't trust the body shop then I would not take it to them..

Also most professional body will not take cars for a joy ride as they will not risk their name if something happens for a simple ride around the corner.

if you still running the stock ecu, go ahead and replace the thermostat put the proper coolant in it. then definitely do something so the stock ecu is stuck in limp mode.

Find a shop you won't be worried about. If you can't trust them with your car, you shouldn't be paying them.

I see you're in Austin. Which body shop are you taking it to?

a BMW specialty shop that my brother likes, i don't know much about them

obviously, though, if I knew of a reputable body shop I would take it there
I've had some good and bad experiences with body shops
I believe most mechanics are honest, it's just lately I've been hearing stories

anyway, I took my car to the mazda south dealer body shop many years ago
- and they oversprayed and painted my greddy muffler red

- ellis and salazaar was recommended to me, jerks LOST my car keys and charged me storage fees, this was many years ago as well.

so it's not like I dont know how the system works, i was just curous what most other users thought.

I took my RX8 to the body shop at the freeman mazda dealer here in dallas
they got it fixed in a week and everything was good but they didnt fix the warranty issue I had asked them before I picked the car up. anyway, a sidemarker reflector fell off or they forgot to put it on, they fixed it a week later no questions asked.

it will be another week or two before the car is done. I believe they might be repairing the rear quarter panel. They used to weld those but I heard now there is some sort of special glue that works.

If you have full coverage, I wouldn't worry too much.

These aren't supras. Rarely will insurance make good on paying the proper value on modded FDs. if anything I'd pull the EGI fuse and let them push the car around the shop.

I had my FD repaired at Freeman Mazda in Irving, TX. They took forever and could not match the paint on my bumper covers to the rest of the car. Never again!
