How does it work? Is it just a matter of putting a clear darkish sheet of paper over the windows or is it acutally a process?

www.tintdude.com is a window tinting forum that I found when I was looking for a tint shop. It is aimed mainly toward professionals, but it has some info on diy tinting.

 

hehe its easy dude, jsut get some soap water in a sprayer, buy some tint, get some tape and seprate the tint from the clear procetive sheet, spray soap water on to the clean window and on to the tint, slap the tint on, use a squeggy to get the water out and then cut to trim and your done.

P.S. dont use windows till tint fully drys!

 

I watched the tinter do the work on my FD. The door windows didn't look to tough, but personally, I would not want to attempt the hatch glass. My guy did it as one big piece (some tinters would want to do it in sections), and it didn't look easy.

Shop around for the tint films-- they seem to vary a lot in appearance, quality, price, etc. That tintdude forum has some interesting info.

 

Not trying to be a pain, I am a do-it yourselfer myself, I've tinted for years now, trust me it's not that easy, unless your car is brand spanky new your going to get dust under the film, it's gonna get dirty, your gonna get fustrated, and forget about the rear glass, i don't know what generation SEVEN you have but all three have curved glass, and they require melting the tint on the outside to form it, Tint is made by a million compnies ,get the wrong one it'll turn purple, start peeeling, I mean if you still wanna do it, I will be happy to give you a step by step,

 

Yep, I remember the tinter using a heat gun to preshrink the film to match the curve of the hatch glass before putting it in. It just looked like the kind of skill that you develop with lots of practice and lots of tint film

 

well, looks like I'll just be doing the 2 side windows now.

 

If the sheet is not large enough to span the rear hatch, can it be cut to do in pieces?
