Searched Around and I Still Need Help . . .
Hey there, I'm new to this thread, but not new to posting, so I know to search and read the stickies and FAQ's before posting a question. I've done each of the prescribed actions but still am having trouble finding my answer. I've seached, "crackling", "popping", "hissing", you name it, I've probably tried to find advice on it.
Anyway, so on with my problem.
I drive a 1988 10AE and I've taken it apon my self to install and intergrate a laptop, as opposed to just a radio, into my FC. I've done everything that the threads I've searched have said to do. I've ran my own wires, made sure I used good grounds and I even bypassed the factory amps (probably shaved some weight by removing them too, LOL) all so that I can use my laptop as my multimedia center in my car.
Here's the problem, when I hook the laptop up to the aftermarket stereo, I get this horrible hissing and popping sound from my speakers. Not just while the music is playing either, it does this whether there is music coming from the computer or not. This is awkward because the radio, itself, doesn't make this noise. The popping and crackling/hissing only happens when I connect the laptop to the stereo.
You see, the stereo has an "Auxillary Input" on the front of it and whenever I hook up the laptop (via 1/4 inch earphone jack) to the radio that's when it begins. If I pull the wire from the laptop, it stops. Connect it, it starts back up.
I KNOW that there has to be a way to get this to perform properly, but I've tried everything. I've even gotten a power inverter and hooked up the FC's speakers to a computer speaker set and I still get the horrible sounds.
If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, or if they can tell me what I'm missing, I'd be most appreciative.
Thank you,
-Dave

I'm not an expert but have hooked up a few systems. What does the aux jack on the radio look like? Maybe the 1/4 din plug from the computer is incorrect and not grounding properly when plugged in the radio.
