Scuff Plates & Mudgards installed

Ok, I finally got the damn scuff plates and I have to say they look freaking awesome. When you buy these things new they come with some tacky gold lettering, which most of you end up peeling off and throwing out...After pulling off the letters and inspecting them I realized that it was thick enough to polish off the gold...So I did and it looks 10X better than just taking the letters off.

Here they are:

After, I installed the front mudgards which will be the extent of exterior modifications (except for wheels of course!) It makes a world of difference I think.

After Install:

Just thought I would share

both look awesome! Is that stock paint? Don't see too many silver fd's running around -- come to think about it I don't know if I've ever seen a silver fd in person. The lines really complement silver.

It is a stock silver FD but has been repainted with factory paint.

Did they come with the "RX-7" polished like that? I recall see some where it was kinda had goldish tint.

Cool, I just got mine too. How difficult is it to polish the gold off? Did you mask it off then buff, or what? I like that alot better than the gold (a little too pimp).
(no offense intended to any of you pimps out there)
Damn PC environment anyway, never know who you're going to offend

Apneablue,

Everything looks outstanding! From the first paragraph of your first post, it seems that you polished the lettering yourself? Or did you have it done by someone else? If you did in fact D.I.Y, would you maybe post up a how to? Thanks man!

BTW: Are you gonna get the rear mudguards also?

I did everything myself...You need a little polishing skilz to pull it off but it's pretty easy.

First you are going to have to take of the letters which are glued down with this stick stuff...Use an exacto knife and peel them up...

Find a nice piece of board and about 3" x 7" and glue the letters down on it with glue (I used a small dot of super glue...don't use too much of it wont come off the wood) The wood is just to give you a solid polishing surface to polish the letters.

Start off with your different grades of sandpaper 80-200-320 is what I used..

When you have a nice sanded finish and all the gold is polished off, then take it to the buffing wheel...When you get them nice and polished use the exacto and break them loose (probably a good idea to put the superglue towards the edge of the letter...if you glue it more towards the middle you will have to bend them to get to the glue..)

Clean off the excess glue on the scuff plates and the letters and and glue them on...Tadaaaaaa!

Edit: On the rear mudguards, the car already had them

Actually it was $7 shipped..so that would actually turn out cheaper than malloy @ a whooping saving of $1.00

I had mine shipped with the front mud gards and it was $7 for both of those.
