Scoot hood?

I did a search on the forum and havent found much. Where is the best place to buy a scoot or scoot stlyed hood from? I know VIS and SEiBON make them and i would like people who own one of them to send some feedback. On vis's website it says that it needs hood pins and requires a FMIC? is this true? i have seen several 7's with the scoot hood and no front mout. Please let me know if anyone has some feedback. Thanks!

Hoodlocks? You don't even need to latch down the hood. I got on the highway for a test run, got up to 90 and didn't even realize the hood wasn't even latched down. It didn't even so much as move. The "gills" are too big for the wind to develop any lift. And the FMIC is just an added bonus.

They are a little different from eachother..If you look close at them, the vis looks more like the scoot version and is a little more aggressive than the seibon. I've read that some people have fitment issues with the vis.

My ViS one has been great, sure the gaps on the front and side are a bit larger than the stock hood, but IMO it looks awesome. Mine latches real hard with the stock latch and then installed some hood pins just to be safe.

Haven't had a problem with the hood yet, but a thing to consider is how often you drive, if you are around any roads with lots of rocks and what not, it will scratch off the clear coat, if those rocks fly up and hit the hood.

pwwatkins is right the Vis version has more "aggressive" gills and the front vent. From what I remember the Seibon hood is more low profile and has grills in each opening.

It all comes down to how much you leave it out in the sun. I have had mine for almost two summers now and have not had a single problem with the clear coat. Although I had a rock come up and chip the clearcoat off in one spot...

If you want some pictures of how mine fits...here goes

Now mind you the headlights I have absolutely suck and fit like crap so in the last picture the gap is about the same between both lights its the cover wouldn't fit right on the driver's side.

nice lookin ride. mines gonna look alot like that without the headlights but in black. It will not see sunlight unless its being drivin... so i doubt the clear will be much of a problem. Plus its not that big of a hastle to have a hood re clear'd.

BStorm, are you sure your freind had a 100% authentic VIS hood there are alot of good knock offs out. The past VIS hoods ive had ( 2 of them) Have not had any wear problems with the clear or gel coat. one had a slight weave pattern messup but nothing more than that.

instead of going carbon fiber, im thinking about going fiberglass, that way i can shift my hood and shave off the parts that are to close to my headlights and the edges of my fenders.. i guess you could say, "cheat"?? lol.

although, carbon fiber would be the way to go, since the scheme of my car is black/red.

I bought this one a while back. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=645990 I'm not sure if you could find one, but it may be worth a try. It's fiberglass with functional vents like the authentic scoot hood.

Rotary Extreme shut down shop years ago. You can try Shine Auto Project for a FRP scoot hood.

same view for comparison purposes. I have the seibon hood and you can see what people mean about the less agressive vents. Me personally, I prefer the not so aggresive look but that's just me. Oh yeah the hood did fit rather nicely

I can attest to that. Though my lights fit rather well and are very sturdy, that wasn't the case at the begining.

Is there any fully functional scoot hoods? For instance, are the Seibon and Scoot hoods functional in brining or expelling air from the engine bay?

The seibon and vis hoods are 50% functional of the of the original scoot. In the original the center vent was ducted all the way to the brake lines for cooling. With the replicas that is not the case. Though it does bring cool air into the bay, the center vent seems to be more for easthetics. And yes both replicas do help greatly in reducing underhood temps.
