S5 Restoration - Interior Carpet or Sray Liner?

I have started a restoration on my 89 GXL. Interior is in mostly good shape with only a few pieces of molding that needs to be replaced. Carpet is crap too. Rear carpet is sun-dried brittle and literally flaking off all over the place. Front carpet is soft and clean but quite faded to give it a black/gray spotted appearance and it's so stretched under the driver's feet it's raised up to about a 2 inch tall hump. Needless to say I'll need replacing this or....

I am considering doing a spray liner like rhino liner or something just as sturdy in place of carpet but keeping everything else molding, etc. I know everyone has their own opinions about looks, etc but has anyone done it and can share pictures? I am trying to imagine what it would look like in my head but I'd like to know in real. I've seen plenty of trucks done this way but I'm wondering about an FC.

Interior is black and will be outfitted with a rear seat instead of the storage bins. Here are just a couple pics of what my interior looks like so far...I've been stripping it out to check it over for rust and bad wires.

Well if you spray liner on it, it isn't really a restoration. I would say go for the new carpet.

True, I know...it's more like a restore with mods. I'm thinking overal ease of maintenance of not having to shampoo the carpet after spills and muddy foot traffic. Especially since a 5 year old will be riding in the back.

I'm just trying to weigh options really. I know everyone has opinions and their own likes or dislikes but I'm not against it unless it's going to look totally horrible with hardware or other parts sticking out that would otherwise be covered.

Carpet soaks up a lot of noise. If you go with the spray be prepared for a louder drive.

May I ask where your knowledge is from on that statement? I've looked around on forums, not just from this site, and some that have done it with their cars said it was actually quieter so I am just curious.

Thanks.

Spraying a liner will change the spectrum of the noise, and may even reduce some of the noise that comes through the the body. Anything that gets through will have way fewer places to be absorbed. Carpet over a spray liner would be optimum for reducing conducted as well as ambient noise.

Oh ok, yeah, that makes sense. I'm actually starting to lean towards getting new carpet because stripped the car down there is the original, clued on "stuff" on the metal. I think it's going to be more of a pain in the *** then it's worth to do a rhino liner type flooring because I'll have to scrap and clean all of that off.

I do wish that someone has done it just to see what it looks like. I have a few of my racing buddies trying to convince me to do it. I'm only sold because spills can be wiped up rather then shampooing carpet.
