RX7 3D Model

This is a thread about the 3D model I'm working on in Maya.

Pardon the bad compression.

Animating is a lot easier in Maya than modeling...

Is there anything out there to help redesign the exterior or interior with a click of a button. In other words to see what colors look good together on the interior. Now that would be cool.

That's kind of what I'm working on... I want a base model, that can be used to rotate the car into a specific angle for photshopping something on, or to just build the part in 3D and then see how it looks, as well as colors etc...

What tools did you use to get the edge curves of the body? Just overall dimensions and eyeing it?

I've toyed with doing a similar thing, but I'm only familiar with CAD modeling software. I guess Rhino or Pro/E would be my best bet. Can you export your data to IGES or STEP?

I don't plan on ripping my fellow rotary enthusiats off for a model I enjoyed building. Allthough If I model the interior etc.. .I might concider offering it up on turbo squid. the alternative there is pathetic.

Tools ? Maya Nurbs -> Polys -> Sub-D for the bumper, and Nurbs for the rest. I have some technical drawings I dug up on a site, that have a nice Side/Front/Top/Back and I templated them to an image plane, and then I draw curves, as you can see to get the shapes, and then start to move them into position.

Exporting to IGES should not be a big deal since I think Maya offers that standard.

Re: RX7 3D Model

I'm thinking of going back and trying to model the back half of the body in one surface, we'll see....

It's tough to judge the model, for one, 1/2 of it is missing and it looks like whoever made that struggled with the same issues as me, intrgrating the roof with the rear fender at the door handle. Getting the fenders to smoothly blend into other body panels...

Nice work ! Do you have the orig. 3D Model Chuck !??

Yeah that and the image is comped agaist is all off... the angle of the car doesn't match the angle of the BG, the Wheel Wells need some bounce light, The Interior is way to bright, and the paint has no "depth" to it... as well as the reflections beeing bogus....
Now that I've torn it to shreds. I was origially saying that the model was not bad. yet he was struggeling with the same problems I came across... so from a modeling perspective not bad...
