replacing background dash lights in a 3rd gen
replacing background dash lights in a 3rd gen
I'm getting kinda tired of the red background lighting in the dash and I wondering if its possible to change the bulbs for a different color? The speedo cluster can be taken care of with glow gauge faces but what about the heater colntrols? Does anyone have any info about the bulbs like size, watts, amps, resistance, ect?
As far as changing the dash light color it will require to change the heater control ***** and other stuff that lights up like ashtray, AC button etc..., the bulbs are regullar clear with no color on them and if you put colored bulbs the light will still look the same stock color (speaking from experience) because the ***** are who give the orangy color.
I was searching for a while after I got the white gauges to mach color at night but I guess never surched enough, I'd like to find something also that will give green or blue color.

You can change the bulbs out to change the lighting color.
Or you can scrath offthe diffusion material on the back of the knobas and repaint them with fingernail polish (light coat only) It works fine. I have done it one mine and gotten them Blue. I since went back to red but mine are a much darker red then the stock light red/amber color lighting. I also have done the main guages to light to a very dark red to match by overlaying red monocoat (thanks to Dclin) and swaping the bulbs with red auto bulbs.
Buy the bulbs at your local auto parts store or search online for "automotive bulbs"
JCWhitney should have them also.

Pics and a short write up (over parts of the original question) here:

Also search under spyfish007 - he has a write up on guages somewhere as well.
