Any tips for removing a windshield from a car? The car in question is a 90 GXL, not that I think it probably makes a difference. I have a T2 with a small spiderweb crack and may be able to get a good condition windshield for cheap from a guy who is junking his parts car. I'd like to go over and pull it off myself if possible and am wondering if there is anything in particular I should do or how I should go about it.

ok, all u have to do is go to music store and buy some gutar strings... and just use them like a saw..the thiner the string the quicker it cuts but breaks quick and large one cut slow but last longer... good luck and let us know how you make out

We just did this for Sky...

Don't use the really thin E string - smallest.
Get the next one up - I forget which one that is; it's been a long time since I've played.

Remove all metal and plastic trim
This should expose the silicone rubber sealant.
With a tiny drill bit, go into the corner - stay away from the glass!
Gently insert and twist - it should go in pretty easily.
When you get the bit all the way through, remove and then poke the string in.

Use two large bolts or dowels and wrap the guitar string around and then hay-twist the wire - this allows you to use your fingers to grip the "handles" you've just created.

Pull at a sharp angle with the direction you want to cut the sealant.
If you feel the wire "grating" back off and go the other way.
When you get down to the dashboard, it might help to have a friend on the other side.

Do NOT pry on the glass - this will crack it quickly!

get it done professionally, anywhere from $175-$200 for a nice clear new one
they will even come to your job or house to do it


its not as much getting the old one out without breaking it as it is installing a new one and it not leaking. Just not worth the hassle
