Removing Vinyl Wrap off of Car
So the RX-7 has a full wrap job on it, and although its nice and protects the paints from the elements, I will be removing it soon.
I had done some research to ensure that I do not damage the paint when removing.
The previous owner (who got the car wrapped) assured that the car was cleaned very thoroughly before they wrapped it and that it should just peel off.
The idea for me is to leave the car out in the sun on a warm day for 6-7 hours, and then use a heat gun to get the vinyl pliable enough to peel off in as big of peices of possible without it tearing and leaving small spots of residue.
Thats my biggest concern. Yeah, we can read up about how to remove the vinyl, however, to my knowledge basis pictures that the PO sent to me, the Victory Red underneath the car is in VERY good shape, so it shouldnt be a problem. However, 23 year old clearcoat (if you can even call it that) is 23 year old clearcoat. I dont want to start ripping this vinyl off and damaging the vinyl, leaving chunks of clear missing.
If any of you have experience doing it on an RX7, great! But any experience and advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks! PS below is the pic of the car with the hood cracked open and dusty, but it shows the vinyl wrap (Blue).
