recommend me audio

Hi, I'm tearing down my 88 rx7 and rebuilding. I already have everything picked out except audio. I know alot about cars but suck when it comes do the speakers and stuff. I am looking for a mid range setup, no top of the line and no POS either. Could you please recommend me speakers and everything? I am going to try to get most of it off of ebay. Thanks!

My TII has the following:

Sony Headunit
52x4

Boston Acoustics Tweeters
Boston Acoustics 4" speakers for the kick panels
Alpine 6.5 In the rear towers
10" Alpine Type R in a custom enclosure behind the passanger seat in the cargo hold.

Powered by
Alpine 1000W Mono Amp for the sub
Rear and front speakers powered by 4x100 watt Alpine amp

It all sounds good and clean with a little bump ( i dont use a whole lot, just for my ride to be good)

i work at ultimate electronics and i have been doing this for about 5 years andevery car i have ever had i have put infinity kappa speakers in they are clean efficient good highs good mids even good lower ends i would still get a sub for a little more kick, but my new rx has 6.5 kappa 3 ways in the back and 4 in kappa 2 ways in the front and 2 kappa dvc 12s in the hatch, the dvc is a over kill but i like it , also the only thing i can recommend for clean good sound is amp your speakers all of them, more watts means more dynamic range good sound

The first question is how much are you willing to spend?

BTW - More (in quantinty) does not means better sound, and stay away of 2ways\3ways as much as possible.

Eclipse
PPI (precision Power)
Xtant
MB Quart
Boston Acoustics

It all depends how much you are willing to spend on the system. Then build a system around that budget. Brands and prices are in a big spectrum.

Alpine has the best mid-range decks for the money. I would suggest the 9827, it gives you 3 preouts for amps, built in XM controller (have to buy the tuner and antenna) and also MP3 playback. Pretty good tunability. I have the 9835 which is top of the line at around $450. The 9827 is around $230-270. If you have a certain budget set aside I would make the deck priority and build off of that.

make sure to install door speakers! I don't know wtf mazda was thinking with facing all the speakers away from the driver, only the rear speakers are even on the same plane, and just barely.

I've noticed in cars with excelent stereo's(uknown brand, good sound) that the speakers are all right next to the passengers. tweaters/midrange speakers on dash pointed at your face and subs/midrange in the doors and pure subs in the back if needed, which really aren't for a two seater.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm basing my assumptions off of my friends' cars with noname stock systems that sound amazing compared to my aftermarket alpine system.

The whole purpose I understood is to stage all the speakers(except subs) to the center of the car because mid and high range frequency ranges are directional where as Subs are non directional and can be placed anywhere. I've alway got the best sound by staging to the center of the car no matter where the speakers are, ie in the dash, floor, door, etc. It's kinda hard in the S4 models because the speakers are pointing down into the floor but ideally the door would be the best place to put your front speakers. If you dont want to spend the money on a good set of seperates make sure you get a speaker that has a pivoting tweeter so you can at least stage that part. In the back on these cars your kinda sol on staging them unless you relocate in one of the rear panels.

I had a nice alpine in my FC. It seems that every alpine I've ever owned got stolen (4 so far). I got ripped off right before my birthday so my girlfriend bought me a Kenwood. It was a nice gift although I wanted to say "If its not clarion or Alpine it ain't goin in." But she made up for it by getting me 2 4" 2 way infinity's for the front and 2 6 1/2" 2 way Infinity's in the back. The deck was top of the line kenwood with all the goodies. She also hooked me up with a M.A. audio 10" sub and 400watt amp for it. All this for my birthday. I don't listen to anything that really thumps so the setup is perfect.

If you don't mind me butting in, Can i ask a Question.

I have a 1990 Vert with a Alpine Head unit, 2x Rockford amp's but my question is in a Vert where would be the best place for the Mid range speakers and what size and make are the best?

I was thinking of going 2x6.5" Rockford Componants in the doors (i like Rockford Stuff but have never try'd had used any other make?). The back is a puzzle as i can't find a good place without distroying the very rare trim (so if i sell the car i'd have to leave it in).

Have a a shop build\install a 5 inch component set on the kickpanels, and a 6 inch woofer on the door (stock location), forget about the rears. If you can find a 3/2 inch speakers, they can be installed on the stock head rest location, with some modifications; I would rather skip the rears all together and put my money on the kickpanels\doors.

Where can you put the door speakers? I couldn't find anwhere to put in 6.5" speakers that would allow the window to roll down? My 88 didn't have factory door speakers.

My 91 had door speaker, I believe they are 6 inches, cause 5.25 were too small for the hole, and 6.5 were too big, so I made a spacer. If yours doesn't have door speaker (thee whole might be on the door, but not on the dorr panel), you might want to do something custom, is easy or take it to a shop.

If depth is a problem, you might want to consider this one:
