Question Which rear wings bolt up to all eight R1 wing mounting holes?

I discovered that my newly-painted VR FEED II rear wing bolts only to the outer R1 holes and leaves the inner R1 holes exposed and looking nasty. Quite the eyesore.

As such, probably not mounting the damn thing.

Anyone have input as to the subject line? thanks

Going on my car shortly is an RE-Amemiya wing. It's like the stock spoiler but bigger and more aggressive, really dope looking. It bolts right up to the stock holes.

I got it used on Ebay, had another red one a while back that went on the project car I sold.

I seriously thought about running the '96-98 JDM OEM whale tail spoiler, but it doesn't use the outer holes, so they'd have to be welded up and all that.

There was a pretty cool JDM big whale tail drift wing on Ebay a few weeks back that covered nearly the whole back hatch, I was REALLY tempted by it, but I have HOURS of paint, wet sanding, buffing, etc. into the RE-Amemiya wing. And, hey, it's RE-A!

Rear wing

Early mazda speed rear wings cover all the fixing holes. I have one on my car. Re do a nice whale tale wing that covers them all as well. Veilside. C west., Should have a cwest wing soon.

are you going to sell the feed wing? Why not get the hatch holes welded shut?

GoodfellaFD3S I know sometimes we feel like changing stuff, especially if we have kept our cars looking the same for a long time but imo your car looks just right so my suggestion is don't use the Feed II spoiler.

^Agreed, or just find a good condition wingless hatch and paint it. There was a guy in VA selling a wingless hatch already primed for 50 bucks.

or just have a body shop take care of the extra, existing holes not being used... of course, they'll have to spray the entire hatch.

They use 6 of the 8 stock holes. The inner upper holes are left open and new lower inner holes need to be drilled.

As a temp fix, open holes can be covered with plastic plugs. Good ones will even be water proof.

+1. If you have the storage space, I would just suggest purchasing another hatch and keeping yours. Best of both worlds

The feed wing is very sexy in my opinion. Find a wingless hatch or have the holes filled. Its not that big of a deal.

whoa. I never had any holes showing...IIRC, the wing didn't use them, but it covered them up. I'll see if i can find a pic, but I'm positive that they never showed when I had (that exact, I think) wing on my Touring.

Could this be the problem? Was your FD fitted with a 99 spec wing before the FEED one? I'm asking because the hatch definitely needs to be drilled to install a '99 spec.

FWIW< I had some plugs painted to match my car for when/if I decide to 86 the wing altogether, and the look pretty clean. Maybe a couple of those would...suffice.

..sorry about that Rich.

Rich, you're a baller so just have a good shop fill the holes. You aren't going to find a decent non-stock looking wing which will reuse ALL of the 93-95 OEM wing holes.

probably not your taste Rich, the mazdaspeed GTC wing will cover all factory holes and you will have to drill 2 more to secure it properly

So how about the 99 wing ?

My brother has a 99 wing mounted on his new FD and would like the R1 wing. I'm assuming that change will require some drilling as well?

go to reganrotaryracing.com and he shows his 99 wing install: two exposed holes left that need to be filled...
99 spec is very nice and worth the trouble IMO

Where would you have to drill exactly and would the R1 wing cover up any of the holes from the 99 wing out of curiosity??

Thanks!
